Height of television on wall
Comments (3)Hello Mlutz, I first want to let you know I own my own custom audio/video company and have many years experience in the industry. You have a very simple yet often asked question. There is no magic formula however a simple solution exists. A good rule of thumb is to center the TV exactly where your eyes will be after sitting on the chair or couch. The tendancy is to put the TV too high so it looks better in the room or on the wall in this case. If the TV is too high you will get tired of watching faster due to neck strain. Everyone usually compromises this by putting the TV's bottom where your eyes will be. The TV will be fine at that height. If you are sitting further than 10 feet then your eyes at the bottom becomes the optimal height. More than 15 feet and the eyes 12" below the bottom would be optimal. Also make sure you put way more blocking covering much more area than you will need just in case. This is very important. Some companies sell power and cable or satelite boxes that recess in the wall to go behind the plasma that allow you to plug in and hide the wires. Just to let you know....See MoreRule of thumb for island light fixture size & height?
Comments (2)Generally, lights are hung 30-32" above counter level. I would think that 48" would be plenty long enough for a billiard fixture, as long as you have lighting around the island that could fill in on the ends if necessary. Do you have cans near the island? The best idea might be to put two separate, smaller fixtures or pendants instead so you don't have such a massive, single fixture....See MoreHow best to hang these pictures?
Comments (17)I think they're too skimpy for the area and I don't think the subject matter will be identifiable with them hung there. These aren't your style, I know, but they can be admired from a safe distance and the subject matter identified. To see yours, I think people will have to mount the stairs and make an effort; a hazard, IMO. I'd like to see your's grouped on center point 5' above the floor where they can be approached and appreciated....See MoreOk to hang tv from sill plate?
Comments (7)I have a similar situation with my brick garage wall, and I've found it works well to screw vertical 2x4s to a horizontal 2x4 that is attached to the the sill plate. I used the extra piece of horizontal lumber mostly to furr out the sill plate because it is not exactly flush with the brick wall face. The vertical "studs" are about the same spacing as normal wall studs and they extend down the wall. This provides a place to attach shelves and hanging brackets without drilling into the cement. You can also turn them 90 degrees to give more attachment area and to stick out less. If I'm attaching something really heavy I use treated lumber and let the stud run all the way down to the floor and use a foam moisture barrier under the base. Bruce...See Morecamlan
