Comments (4)I see your photo just fine. What strikes me first about the house are the landscape timber flower beds sloping to each side. I would start by removing all of the timber, and saving all pieces that are in good shape to be reused. Pour a solid slab in front of the entire porch to visually open up the approach to the front door. Rebuild the flower beds on either side of the porch so the tops are level. You may need to stairstep beds on the right side. Replant the existing plants or put in new plants. Below I show the left half of the house with this scheme. While the shutters on the left window are appropriately sized for the window, those on the right are too narrow, but there is no way to add larger shutters. I wonder if that double window bumpout (?) would not look better if it were painted to blend into the brickwork. Overall, however, I like the way this house looks....See MoreHouse Exterior help
Comments (6)If you need new paint, I would leave the brick unpainted, paint the siding a navy-ish color (like hale navy from BM), paint the door red, and remove the shutters. And then landscape. BUT - if the paint is fine yet and you simply want a color change, first do the landscape first. I think you'll be amazed at the change in curb appeal you'll get......See MoreHouse Exterior Help
Comments (16)Sage green and cream. Power wash the brick. Fun color for front door to pull it out of the overhang. I’m partial to sage green for good reason. My front door is now teal and there is, finally, a brick border around the porch. But the color combination of sage green and cream is really very pretty and would suit your home nicely. You have a nice place. If you like Asian, I would explore that in the landscaping. If you have Netflix, there is a fabulous show called “Big Dreams, Small Spaces” hosted by Monty Don (a British gardener), and one of the episodes featured a woman who adored Asian gardens. She ended up creating the most amazing Asian-inspired back garden. I would be very hesitant to make the house Asian, but maybe your area would support that experiment, mine certainly would not....See MoreHome exterior help!
Comments (2)To me, your siding looks just fine. If I had some $$ to allocate, I would totally do the landscaping. It could be much more interesting. I would also make the approach to the front door more significant and maybe put a little roof-let over the door. Is the door itself a bright color? If so, replace the storm door with a one-pane, full-height, glass, so the door pops more. Are the steps red? I think I'd paint them black. Do you mostly enter the house through the door next to the garage? I would make that nicer, too, and I'd certainly want a little cover while I'm fumbling for my keys....See MoreSarah Lauren
