The first estimate for Sunrise came in at $26.8k on 4 picture, 18 casement, 1 bay for pocket installs. Our second estimate which was for infinity ultrex fg - with 4 of the casements switched to double hungs and 2 of the picture (with flanking casements) switched to sliders came in at $25.8k on 2 pictures, 10 casement, 2 sliders, 2 double hungs for full frame install. Both quotes were for color on the outside (non-white) with a fake wood interior. I'm going to ask the Sunrise person for a quote with the adjusted window styles and for a full frame version as well as ask him about if they have experienced problems with the extra tall casements (80") - according to this other thread they do have ones that tall on their price sheet. The tall casements were switched to double hungs in the infinity quote. Are there other questions / concerns that I should be raising with these people? I had the plug-in models with short cords years ago and gave up on them! Running around with all those extension cords and plugging them in every night was a nuisance. But I missed the look. After reading this thread earlier in the week I ordered the battery candles with timer. The online description said on for 8 hours, but the directions in the box say on for only 6 hours. No matter, 5:30 to 11:30 will be good enough I think. Hopefully these will last longer than the old battery ones used to. The suction cups on rings didn't work on my windows as the glass is too far from where the candle sits. I put tape on either side of the base to the window sill. They are heavier than the old style though and sit more stable. I learn so many things reading this site it's unbelievable! No wonder people ask just about anything on here.

Toddinmn, I am not a DIY customer and am seeking good quality replacements for our rotting, awful Hurd casements. Nashville-area window businesses tend to market one brand: Marvin or Pella or Anderson, etc.. It's extremely difficult if not impossible to compare product & pricing among them, and information regarding longevity is not available. Any general recommendations? Many thanks!

I preferred the 400 Woodwright for years because the thickness of the 400 Tilt-Wash sash forced exterior mullions to be flat which was unacceptable for my projects. That was eventually changed so the windows now look almost the same if you don't mind the protruding glass stop. The frames are the same; the sash balances are different and I have no way of knowing for sure how durable the PPG Flexacron epoxy paint is. Its used for other all-wood windows. I don't know if Adnersen treats the wood sash with a preservative like Pella does on their roll-form aluminum clad windows. I guess the Tilt-Wash might be a reasonable alternative if the budget couldn't accommodate the Woodwirght and the home owner didn't intend to live in the house forever but it would also depend on how competitive the price for the Marvin Elevate fiberglass windows was.
