Why would the baseboard be stacked on top of the shoe molding?
Comments (14)I found an exposes side-angle of the stuff by the stairs. Turns out it's not quarter-round but something else. Has a flat top that the baseboord rests into. I've attached a photo marti8a, yes the whole house it like this. All 2K quare feet. Strangely, inside the closets there's just the baseboard, no wood trim below it. As for the "hammer mark," I think it's just a scuff. There is no indent. snookums2, the flooring is original. The house is only 7 years old and was hardwood throughout from day 1. Any other ideas on why this would be done? Ir is it just a stupid contractor/prior homeowner mistake?...See MoreUse shoe molding or not in kitchen and family room.
Comments (18)We had new tile put into the kitchen, and wood floors all throughout the downstairs. I specifically had the contract written that I wanted no transition strips, and no quarter round/shoe molding, and I wanted their installers to be very capable of executing that. I have a wood cabinet kitchen island very similar to your picture. They tiled right up to it, much like your picture. Now that I have seen how much cleaner the kitchen and the baseboards look, I could probably never go back to looking at that shoe molding....See MoreShould Custom Cabinet maker provide shoe molding to match?
Comments (32)Exactly What Kristin said.... Sometimes when you measure a kitchen you can get a feel for whether you will need shoe molding or not. Quite often it is ordered midway through the install of the cabinets when it becomes obvious it will be needed. Of course you have to pay for it. But it is a fairly standard molding that every cabinet company, maker, custom shop etc would have a standard part of their offerings. Also - did you ask if he is keeping a certain amount of your paint finish? What happens if you need a door replaced in the first year? Dye lots change, there usually is paint kept for parts replacement or add on pieces needed... Did you do crown molding and light rail? Who supplied and finished and installed that? As far as the nail holes! Whoever installed that should be touching that up..... Good luck and keep us posted...See Morequarter round vs shoe mold trim with hardwood floors
Comments (18)Yes the flooring guys put in the new floor. I told them I didn’t want the quarter round, when I showed up they installed it and said “it looked good so they just finished it up and thought I’d like it” - we agreed they would show me a sample before installing it - I had told them I wanted a very tiny square edge piece, and instead when I arrived at our appointed time, apparently they got there early and installed all of it!! So I had them take it out. I hired and paid a carpenter to put the new molding on top of the old toe kick. He used 1/2” but it didn’t cover it on that one side (the most visible side). Now I don’t know what to do! :-(...See MoreCarrie B
