Marble mixed with Subway tile Shower pic
Comments (8)Thanks! Bobb, one thing I do know is that I can at least keep it a little cleaner than the NY subway! :) The grout color is snow white everywhere. I was blocking most of the natural light where I was standing so the shades are all over the place. It also doesn't seem to be such a big expanse of white subway tile in person. It was the angle at which I took the shots that makes the shower seem huge. Not that it's small, which is why I went with the subway tile, it was the only thing I liked and could afford to cover all that space with :)...See Morecan i mix athens gray marble with white subway tile?
Comments (7)As you see in my second picture, the marble is on top of 4x4s. I put the pencil in because I thought it needed the line to define the two materials, and it mimicked the bottom of the chair rail detailing. What I hadn't counted on was that the thickness of the marble causing layout problems like you are anticipating. So, I made the pencil just a bit raised from the 4x4, so it would transition to the depth of the marble. I laid the 4x4 as normal and the marble as normal. The pencil, I laid thick to help with the transition. Tiling is a good exercise in humbleness. Nothings perfect and my tile job reflects that. I remind myself everyday as I see my tiny imperfections and remember laying this tile or that tile. The montauk is black and I got it at Home Depot via special order at 2.99/sf. It was 12x12 and I cut it to 12x6....See MoreHow can I redecorate bathroom with green faux marble floor tiles?
Comments (28)The tile is vinyl...she can't paint the "grout". To me wall color reads a little too much on the blue side, it needs more of a yellow undertone to go with your tub & vanity top. I think the clean white can work for trim and vanity, but only if you bring in more of the creamy/tan colors. I'd just stick with a fairly monochromatic theme-no prints because then you're really stuck with a 'theme'. You can bring in a print with wall art. I'd go more with texture than print, however. In our main bath reno, we have the same tub configuration. We put in white/gray marble tiles with a light grout. The tiles have a touch of tan in them also. I went with a blue wall color-reminiscent of beach glass, and all white trim. We put up beadboard on the ceiling where there used to be a flurescent light tube box built in. I used brush silver accessories and bright white towels. For the shower curtain I chose a shimmery blue one from Ikea. I don't have a 'theme' other than ahhhhh=it's just very calming to walk in there. I do have a stone Buddha and a couple of small shadow boxes of Asian coins. In any case, I'd definitely get a different shower curtain-that one just does not work with your floor....See MoreWhat shower tile with this slate and pebble flooring?
Comments (22)Wow - I came home from work to find such wonderful ideas and photos! Thank you! MtnRdRedux - we already bought the RH medicine cabinet last year (this has been a very long DIY project) so I'm hoping we don't have the same problem you experienced. They are not inexpensive so that's disappointing to hear. I love the limestone and saw some today that could work. Also love slate for the walls and lukkiirish's photos but I'd like to stay lighter for this bathroom. The fireclay tiles are very interesting - I might need to look into those for a kitchen backsplash if not the bathroom. Not sure about metal panels, although that sounds very cool. The good news is I went to Arizona Tile today and might have found some tumbled marble 4x8 tiles that could work with my other selections. I need to pick up the slate and pebble order this week to be sure because I didn't take home the samples but I'm really liking this tumbled Carrera and Manhattan marble. The Manhattan has less pattern and some pieces are almost solid white while others seem a bit warmer with grayish blue or green undertones. There was also a larger 16x24 honed Soto marble piece that might work for the shower seat and curb/threshold. I also looked at the crema marfil, which seemed more ivory than pink - but the salesperson did say this stone could have pink undertones depending on what's in stock. (Thanks for the warning, cpartist!) Slate and Pebbles Carrera and Manhattan Tumbled Marble Soto Honed Marble Crema Marfil Tumbled...See Moremvcanada
