Can you mix white subway tile with stone?
Comments (12)Believe me, I don't purport to be an expert on anything interior design, or otherwise decor-related, but I can say that yes, you should be able to mix them. It might depend on what type of stone mosaic you want to mix with your ceramic tile, but you should be able to do it. We mixed stone and ceramic in all three of our bathrooms as well, and they look terrific in our opinion. Not only that, but the sample board in the tile store that served as an inspiration for our guest bathroom, had a natural stone mosaic border with vertical white rectangular field tile (think "oversize" subway tile). We used a listello border (comprised of White Thassos and Emperador Dark marbles, and noce travertine sticks) and Daltile Modern Dimensions field tile in White (Arctic White?). Here are a couple of pics of our guest bathroom: I have to upload pics of the two recent reno's so I can post them. Will try to do so later. Both of those bathrooms have white field tile with stone mosaics, too....See MoreWhite vs gray grout for white subway tiles in shower
Comments (4)I like the contrasting gray grout, but for resale (in my area - mostly 100 year old homes, HCOL) I'd definitely go with matching (white) grout (well, just a bit off white to hide dirt). While many do like the gray grout on white tile, plenty are turned off by it. I doubt many buyers would be actually turned off by white grout on white tile. Its just 'safer,' at least according to real estate agents where I live (I asked many when I was doing my master bath). And, if the tile work isn't very straight, the contrasting color will magnify that problem. With similar color grout you won't notice tile issues as much. I guess the best thing to do - if you are concerned about resale - is ask a real estate broker in your town. HTH!...See MoreDaltile subway tile 0100 white and marble
Comments (12)^Nice examples, although the reflective wall tile above does not suit the space, IMO. Gotcha Alice, but it could perhaps be regrouted if you like the color. Otherwise, I think either marble would look fine, depends on whether you prefer grays or a little earthier tones in the mix. The Dal is something I have in a bath and being not a stark white, is compatible with most materials, such as the original white hex with medium gray grout. Highly recommend that grout choice, it blends well and will not be a maintenance issue. I like the look of black hex also and almost used it for an ongoing reno. I didn't price marble, so not sure about price differences....See Morewhite ceramic subway tile w/ marble in master bath: can this work?
Comments (31)Flo, thanks so much. I just got home from the tile shop. I like the basket weave with the black dot (not the dark grey I was considering) and the guy I’ve been working with at the shop suggested just buying field tile that matches the dot and use that as the liner on the rug (cut into 1/2” strips). His thought on the wall is to either use that same liner, to match the dot, or skip it. I’m leaning towards skipping it and letting the floor be the focal point. Do you still think this a tough tiling job? Is it the basket weave or herringbone subway or ...all of it together?. I imagined that the wainscoting would be easy. To answer your question, no I don’t dye my hair at home, but thanks for the heads up....See Morepricklypearcactus
