I was going to say a matte subway tile. I think you can never go wrong with subway tile.

If you are going for the rustic feel then no I wouldn't do white ceramic. The marble looks great and doesn't appear to have pink undertones on my screen. The stone mosaic does look to have some pink though.
Slate can be very slippery, so if it's knew to you just wanted to point that out. We had it in the bath at our first house. We didn't have any issues with it though.
I think the bathroom will look fantastic with those three choices. I do have a question though, is the marble for inside the shower? Are the tiles sealed?

I'm not a big fan of the white marble or subway with your other choices. If you have three types of tile, plus grout, it might get a little busy. Have you thought about doing the black slate on the shower walls too? Or, large format tiles, or wood-look tiles would look great.

I like the idea of slate in the shower, but I wondered if soap scum would be more apparent on the dark, less slick surface.

lisaam, yes it will. Speaking from experience. We did slate floor and slate in the shower and it does show.
If I am understanding what you are looking for, the plan is black slate on main floor, stone in the shower area, then small tiles on the wall? If so, I don't agree with the above post, it's not going to look busy. If you used a tile with a pattern or lots of colour I think it would have that affect, but the white will brighten it up. Speaking from experience, the slate on the walls will really darken the room.

What about cedar walls? Rustic and smells so good!

I like the new larger format rectangular light striated grayish tiles. I also think that the light old weathered gray wood look tiles might look good.

Yes, the plan is for the large black slate on main bathroom floor, the pebbles for the small shower floor and as accent tile for the back of 2 shower niches, so no slate planned in the actual shower. I'm trying to find a lighter tile for the shower walls.

The bathroom is very small and the shower itself is only 33" x 43" or so. I love the pictures posted with darker tiles on the walls but I don't want this little shower to seem cave like.

The crema marfil tile in the photo didn't have much pink but the sample board in the tile shop had more of a pink undertone. It also had an enhancer applied which I won't be using but I'm wondering how much color variation there might be in an order of 90 sf.

I'd love to find a natural stone in that light ivory or white color without the risk of many of the tiles veering pink. White matte subway might be a safer choice, so long as it works with the pebble floor, but I'm not sure if this will make the bathroom look more contemporary than rustic.

I second the idea of large format tiles. Also always nice to have fewer grout lines. Really like the grey striated tiles, posted above.

So this is $$ and you would need to check on whether they are suitable for use in a shower. But what about thin brick tile from Fireclay?

I liked your choices as pictured.

However, do not buy the RH med cab. The mirror is very poor quality and quickly blackens around the edges. RH will blame you for using Windex, which they claim should not be used on mirrors (huh?). More than one of us here have had a tussle w RH over these exact med cabs.

They said that,but I have seven bathrooms here, and six in my old house, 2.5 in my lake house, and five at the beach. In all those bathrooms and over the years, I had one mirror problem, once. And that was with that very RH cabinet in my DH's bathroom here, in a matter of months. Nowhere else, ever.

My googling revealed that mirrors that blackened in this way were cheaply silvered. Again, others have had the same complaint with RH med cabinets.

what about honed grey quartzite or slate for the walls?

We used slate in our bathroom and it has been wonderful, but instead of different stone types we played with the tile sizes and used noir travertine for the shelf, foot rest and chair railing to frame the niche and wall feature. Obviously, your going after a different look, but I wanted you to see that both the dark tile and slate on the walls can work.

I don't know if it's light enough, or too patterned for what you're looking for, but it is a light colored natural stone.

Limestone is pretty but very very porous. It can discolor easily, in my experience. Yet I just chose it again for the MBA floor at the beach, because it does look great!

Just throwing this out there: how about metal panels? (Corrugated, galvanized, sheet brushed stainless) And a teak bath mat.

Stay away from crema marfil if you don't want a pink undertone. We originally had picked a crema marfil tile for our shower years ago. Had that wonderful almost white look. Then we were told before ordering that the white was not the common color for crema marfil and chances are what we would wind up with would be more on the pink/beige side. Thankfully we picked something else.

MtnRdRedux - we already bought the RH medicine cabinet last year (this has been a very long DIY project) so I'm hoping we don't have the same problem you experienced. They are not inexpensive so that's disappointing to hear.

I love the limestone and saw some today that could work. Also love slate for the walls and lukkiirish's photos but I'd like to stay lighter for this bathroom. The fireclay tiles are very interesting - I might need to look into those for a kitchen backsplash if not the bathroom. Not sure about metal panels, although that sounds very cool.

The good news is I went to Arizona Tile today and might have found some tumbled marble 4x8 tiles that could work with my other selections. I need to pick up the slate and pebble order this week to be sure because I didn't take home the samples but I'm really liking this tumbled Carrera and Manhattan marble.

The Manhattan has less pattern and some pieces are almost solid white while others seem a bit warmer with grayish blue or green undertones. There was also a larger 16x24 honed Soto marble piece that might work for the shower seat and curb/threshold. I also looked at the crema marfil, which seemed more ivory than pink - but the salesperson did say this stone could have pink undertones depending on what's in stock. (Thanks for the warning, cpartist!)

Just be aware that nearly all bathroom cleaning products have the disclaimer "not to be used on natural stone" . I'm still trying to find one safe for my tumbled limestone shower floor.

clt3 - thanks for the heads up. I actually have all sorts of surfaces in my house that need special cleaner - travertine, granite, copper, etc.

I've had the best results using a diluted solution of Murphy's All Purpose Cleaner. I'm not sure if it's still sold but I bought a few cases from Amazon when it was selling out so I have plenty left!
