My kitchen cabinet dilemma - dingy.
Comments (17)More thoughts- I'd contact the cabinet maker and see what he charges to repaint/touch up the worst cabinets and/or see if he has the color code so you can match it. DIY isn't always cheaper. Quality paint cost money and so do nice brushes. You mention you "hand sanding" - sure, go ahead, but I'll bet your arm will fall off before you finish. I used a $30 sander and it was worth $500 by the time I was done (I sanded my first cabinet and my arms were burning, but maybe you're more in shape than I am). My cabinets took me 4 months to repaint. But I took my time, cleaned them with TSP, sanded, primed and painted, and then let them cure. If you're not going to do it right, then just leave it alone because you could end up creating a disaster....See MoreWhite Kitchen Cabinet Dilemma
Comments (7)I have seams in my white painted maple cabinets, and I'm fine with it. They open up more in winter, less in summer. They are more visible at night than during the day. This is also true of the "seams" between the cabinets. In fact, I don't see how you could have a completely "seamless" kitchen, given that you have to join one material to another. So to me, it's a non-problem....See MorePLEASE HELP!! Kitchen Cabinets Dilemma
Comments (39)Here is a blog post by someone who painted her cabinets. She is still very pleased with the results 3 years later. Some of her cabinets show wear, which being a DIY person she quickly and easily repaints the worn areas (which do not show on pics taken from a distance.) This is the sort of wear I have seen. Whether this is a problem or not depends on the temperament / DIY skill of the owner. Some see this kind of wear and shrug it off, get the can of paint out now and then and do touch ups. Others are disappointed because it bothers them a lot and don't like or don't feel able to refresh the paint job. https://www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/painted-kitchen-cabinets-three-years-later/ A little wear: Here is another with similar outcome. Neither of these people regret painting their cabinet though both also show what the wear can look like. Both feel that their cabinets have held up well. That depends on ones expectations. https://www.dukemanorfarm.com/2016/02/pros-and-cons-of-painting-kitchen-cabinets-white.html...See MoreTwo tone kitchen cabinet dilemma
Comments (1)If you end up painting you should do the appliance panels depending on where it is. Meaning if the dishwasher is lower level (obviously lol) do wood. Because the lowers will be wood. Fridge should be wood. Vent hood should be white. Etc. I would stain the cabinets the same as the floor if you can. Very pretty flooring. Love the color....See MoreUser
