Granite choice help
Comments (7)I've been to 4-5 slab yards in the past few weeks so I've seen a lot of granite! You might want to look at Ivory Coast, it is predominately brown, taupe, beige. We are getting Solarius (with off-white cabinets), similar to Ivory Coast but with gold/yellow/grey too. I've also seen white cabinets paired with dark brown granite or marble (like Emperador, either light or dark), it's pretty. Delicatus or Persian Pearl will give you white and brown, White Spring has some red in it too. Go to houzz.com to give you an idea of what looks good with white cabinets, you can also tell if the granite has more movement than you want....See MoreWhite Cabinets & Trim Dilemma - What to do now?
Comments (32)jmcreque Lovely kitchen! We have the same issue in our current kitch. We used a plinth block to separate the trim in the meet up corner and it looks fine. This seems glaring now only because nothing else is in the kitchen. Counters and BS will tie it all together. I would consider first painting the trim WD in the kitch only, this keeps costs down, and staining the doors to match the island. In fact if it were my kitchen I'd do that anyway. Those big white doors distract from your really beauiful cabinetry. Are the doors to be closed most often? Then this is also a non issue. I disagree with your architect/designer, sometimes everything too matchy-matchy just doesnt do well. All that leads me to: is the WD the best color for this kitchen given the light in the room. Window light, lighting isnt in yet? and time of day all play into color. Your finished room will look quite different with all the colors involved plus accessories. I certainly wouldnt pay thousands extra to change out the cabinet color at this stage. YMMV...See MoreOrdering custom cabinets: dilemma re: white paint vs. light stain
Comments (18)yep..light wood is making a comeback, definitely so I'm still in my walnut and teak stage(and probably will stay there for a while lol), but I love some light woods too..maple for example...cherry.. I like the idea of mixing both:) some cabinets are light stained and some are white(or some other light color). why not, if the overall design supports it of course? I think the most important for kitchen is to make sense within the context of the style of the house. then it will always look like it belongs. second most important-that it makes sense with your own individual style and preferences. then it will a) be cohesive with the rest of the space b) will make you happy(you can switch a) and b) places)) I don't get this "looking dated" thing..either it's pretty/nice/beautiful/cute/gorgeous-or it's not whoever doesn't like it in ten years (including you), for any reason anymore-redoes it if he can afford it. and if he can't-he waits until he can. if the kitchen makes sense-one can wait for years. its the ones that seem to be glued to the house, stylistically disconnected, or dysfunctional-that you wish to rip out others, you work with. you like them despite being "dated" too. unless you're told day after day you shouldn't...)))...See Morewhite or black cabinets dilemma
Comments (7)Hi there! We have a white perimeter, navy island and another navy run of cabinets where our fridge and freezer columns are. I will say that the white hides all dust, but I do see coffee drips, soy sauce splashes, etc. I am fine with that because I'd rather know that my cabinets need to be wiped and I probably wipe those spots once a weed or as needed. As for the navy cabinets, I see dust and fingerprints constantly. I always feel like I am wiping them down and probably do every other day to wipe up dust or water marks....See Morelharpie
