the number one thing, move that sofa out of the doorway. pull the rug and sofa floating in the room. center the rug and put the front legs of the sofa on it. the chair looks like it was part of a sectional? is that true, if so I would take it out and bring in the chair you have in the dining area and that love seat. put the love seat to the window side and the chair to the other side angles. you have a great touch of blue in the island, bring that into the other room in touches, patterned curtains, pillows, and in art work. splash it around and let it be the first bit of color it will lead you into others.

Move in with what you have an live with it for a while until you see how you want the house to live. I'm not sure how anyone sit on the current position of the sofa and can view the TV Here is a layout for your room, and definitely select a rug that is much larger for this room. Lefty47, seems great lefty minds think alike! I did the frosting look but still have an inexpensive shade because I need to be able to pull it down to block the window completely in hot weather - it’s a southern exposure. The rest of the time the frosting works well for light and privacy. Need/ want a nicer ..something...to go with frosting and accomplish what the old shade does While looking a lot better. The kitchen will eventually be a gut job but not for 2 years; gotta live with what is there now. A cabinet of some type ...good idea but not for New England-y heavy coats. Upstairs, I think, for them!

I think the bedroom wall area is busy enough with the door decals. The photo of the framed posters up the stair wall looks really nice!
