Two good paint colors to go with warm wood are white / cream and sage green / green grays. The problem with flooring is if you change things up, you end up reflooring again. I love natural oak hardwood - timeless look, but as you already have a lot of wood, that might not work - depends on your plans for the rest of the home and how rustic a look you want. This is from your idea book - a good floor (looks like natural oak) and one always available should you need to patch an area due to changes. It looks pre-finished in this pic - go with site finished for easier patching down the road.

We found that the Shitake really changed tone depending upon what it was surrounded by. I would suggest painting a large sample board and moving from place to place in your light and against your other materials. I found choosing paint colors the hardest part of building our home. You have to have a large sample and take to the actual place you want to paint it to see the light because it changes depending on where you are.

Patricia, I totally agree about the tv height but we bought a cool tv mount that will allow the tv to swing down over the mantel by 28" to lower the height for viewing. We tried configuring hte room as you suggested, but because of the massive French doors on the opposite wall that swing into the room, we can't really put the tv on the wall that you suggested. The room -- despite being fairly large (15'x20') - is actually really strange for layout and furniture placement and it just makes the most sense to mount the tv over the mantel. We lowered the height of the new mantel as much as we could to meet fire code and hopefully the new mount will lower the tv height to a reaosnable range. Also, the pic of the "before" that I attached was mostly to show the space of the room. I took that photo the day we closed on the house. Those ghastly Roman shades were gone in a flash! all of the seller 'swindow treatments were terrible! lol I'm going to further investigate the hardwood floors this weekend. If you have a suggestion of a grayed green paint color, I'd love to check it out!

If you are looking for a good teal (aqua) that is bright, goes with a lot of things, and doesnt give a dirty look, or a dark look, take a look at Sherwin Williams Blue Iris. Also , if you are going with teals please make sure you light bulbs are all daylight type bulbs (4000k works well).
