We found that the Shitake really changed tone depending upon what it was surrounded by. I would suggest painting a large sample board and moving from place to place in your light and against your other materials. I found choosing paint colors the hardest part of building our home. You have to have a large sample and take to the actual place you want to paint it to see the light because it changes depending on where you are.

To answer a few questions: - it is the house my mother in law grew up in, hence the “family house” reference - we don’t have a lot of extra cash right now which is why we chose carpeting - not for lack of trying - triple the cost to put in wood and there is no hard flooring in price range ... so carpet. - we’ve embraced mcm as much as we can with the rest of the house... my instinct is to change it all but the idea is to get it move in ready - because two mortgages :-/ are unbearable. We plan to add on and redo as we can over the next few years. So, the aim is to get something livable that is transferable to our style in the future. We have embraced the beautiful elements that fit with today. - the fireplace is sandstone. I love the look of the “washed” stone. I’m hoping I can convince the extended family that it will look good. If you are looking for a good teal (aqua) that is bright, goes with a lot of things, and doesnt give a dirty look, or a dark look, take a look at Sherwin Williams Blue Iris. Also , if you are going with teals please make sure you light bulbs are all daylight type bulbs (4000k works well). Ok... you have the typical brown/red/orange presentation of Jatoba. You don't like the beige on the walls because it is turning a bit pink (first photo). That's perfectly normal for Jatoba. It throws A LOT of colour up onto the walls and onto every other surface. What I'm seeing are area rugs that are too small. And your sofa is a brown with green undertones (at least on my monitor). You have a colour clash between the sofa and the floors and the walls (if walls are turning pink...the green-brown looks gacky next to it). Your sitting area behind the sofa is leaving a lot of floor space open with a cream (nice) and taupe (gray brown = gacky next to the Jatoba). That means MORE colour clashing. My suggestions: paint out the walls in 'primer white' and live with them for a few weeks. Figure out what is REALLY going on (colour wise) with your space. After that, get a MASSIVE area rug underneath your sofa-sectional. Something that separates the green-brown from the fiery red-orange-brown of the floor. And then I would make sure the cream-taupe carpet is underneath as much furniture as possible. The cream is lovely but the taupe (which is matched to your sofa...I get it) is giving a colour clash and THAT is what is upsetting your style.
