Can I use my plywood to sheet over existing sheeting?

I have an old house with horizontal lap siding and some additions. When they did the additions they left the existing corners at least. (not sure about siding) and just put in a vertical 1x for a transition on the additions. The exterior walls do not line up, there is about a 1/2” offset. My plan is to remove and replace all the siding and resheet over the existing sheeting on the additions only, to line up the exterior walls. Wrap and reside all of it, thus making the siding cleaner, more seem-less, and making the additions virtually unnoticeable.

My question is, What can I use to sheet over the existing 1x’s. My plan was to use some osb, but I have a bunch of 1/2” ply that has a clear coat of some kind on it. Would it be a problem to use this?
