Pooh, you are making me giddy! Gone and 35ft, thank you! The cabs are starting to warm up but the house has a lovely large roof overhang which keeps the heat from blasting in during the summer (a good thing) but also has slowed the warming of the cherry (not as good). Since we just replaced the two cabinets by the stove, I think this isn't all bad, but it is nice to hear that it is looking warm, which was my original hope! As an aside, the first kitchen we did was also cherry, and it took forever to sell (something about buying/moving just as the economy tanked) which allowed me to see the cherry warming up there. The sun beat into that kitchen relentlessly (it was nice) in the mornings, and the cherry turned quickly.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and willingness to help. I'm looking right now to see if I've got a before pic of the kitchen, I found a picture we took when we previewed the house for the first time, I am scanning it in. Sherrmar, I touched on why I don't want to fill it with tile in my original post, I don't want the wall to look too heavy with tile, and I don't want the shine of new tile to look out of place in an old farmhouse kitchen. Clergychick, I loved that backsplash tile! I wish that style would 'go' with my house because I'd totally copy it! Sparkle, the paint tone would be the same tone as the tiles, not a bright accent color or anything. Thanks for showing those pics. One of the reasons I don't want to go all the way up is the big wall over the sink. I don't think I want the backsplash to continue up into tiles there, also I don't want to put an accent area over the stove, with a tile mural or area of interest, because the stove will be replaced with one without a control panel eventually, then the area with a special tile area will not be centered. So, onto the picture, I don't know how to put one in this post so I will add it to my page. See that big wall over the sink? I don't want the tile all the way up to where the bottom of the counters is, that will look too high in my opinion. But what do you all think? I'm open to ideas.

Prices are pretty reasonable. What about that milk green color? will it work? maybe with some garnet pieces sparingly mixed in. I'm not sure how I came across this post, I think it was displayed on the right side and I clicked on it being intrigued by the tile making. I was at one time interested in working with papercrete and hypertufa. But after enlisting my brother, who wasn't as enthusiastic, and my niece, who poured cement down my laundry room sink, which original to the house had lasted 70 years, and ruining three blenders, my interest waned. True to form, if I come upon difficulty in a project, I think of it as a sign for me not to continue. And really, after all these years of trying various crafts that result in crap, I should know better. I also should have known better than to ask my brother, who always says it can't be done to any of my unique design ideas. And I should have known better than to ask my niece, who once stayed up all night before having to drive to LA for an art show, cutting mat after mat after measuring once, twice, sometimes ten times, but always coming out with the wrong size. I think we both have math dyslexia. I should video us trying anything crafty to see where we go wrong. I think both of us having ADHD might have something to do with it. Sorry for the backstory and run on sentences. So, I just wanted to see if you continued with your venture. And to say sorry for whatever tragedy occurred to cause you to have to move to Florida. Not that there is anything wrong with Florida, but it isn't Panama. Which is one of my favorite places in the western hemisphere. I hope no one is upset that I brought up a seven year old post.
