heath tile: crystal blue or heron blue backsplash?

I’m a ceramist and for years have wanted heath tile in my house. Kitchen remodel - it’s time! I’m smitten with the Heron Blue 2x6 tile but now my husband has me worried it’s too dark. Just ordered samples of Crystal Blue. Anyone have photos of either installed in kitchen or bath?

So hard to visualize or to find photos! We are going with walnut cabinets, tan majal quartzite countertops, 8 foot ceilings with good natural light. Thx hive mind!

Julie - I think if you post actual photos showing the tiles that you are considering - at the very least - you will get some responses. Not everyone will be familiar with the tiles you’re referring to - and may skip over the post vs. having to go look up the tiles. Also, everyone on here always wants a layout drawn to scale + photos of adjoining rooms. Without the foregoing photos/layout, your post won’t receive the attention you desire. Just a thought. . .

Thanks for all of your praise and suggestions. I am also used to the painted white wall, and as the house is now full of our "personality", it doesn't seem so bland. herbflavor- Thx. We thought of stainless, and also of back-painted glass, but we have tried to warm up our modern home with natural wood and stone and worry that these very sleek options take us back to cooler again. palimpsest- thanks for the fireplace suggestion! We tried to save an old redwood joist from the house for the mantel, but it sat outside through a rainy season and got termites! Using some vertical grain fir (windows and railing) is a great, cheap option! northcarolina- We have a little throw rug that catches most of the drips from the sink to fridge to stove. When we wipe up spills there is no problem. The floor shows no wear. We clean it weekly with ECOVER floor soap, not very diluted. It's almost like re-oiling it. In two places we had a dog vomit and a visiting mini dog pee that went unnoticed. there is a watermark from both. But our floor has a lot of character- so I don't notice it anymore.

The size is good. With the colour that you have chosen (according to my monitor) you have a seamless flow of colour from the upper cabinets, through the backsplash to the counter and then to the lower cabinets. If that is what you are looking to achieve you did just that. Looks good.

I am dealing with tile size and proportion with my small fireplace now. I would strongly suggest mocking both sizes up in person. I predict the answer will be clear to you immediately if you do that. Tile that is too big for a small space can look really weird because only a few tiles cover the whole space. There isn't enough tile repetition for it to look right. You could continue your counter top material up just behind the sink to take care of the window issue. Like this:

Makes sense - my perimeter is dark like your first photo shows. It's hard picking a color isn't it? I have enough samples to start my own store. Too gray, too brown, too green, too cool, too warm, oh boy - just NO it's too ugly, lol. Can't wait to see yours - you might beat us anyhow since we are doing it ourselves and the tile is a ways out. I love the look you are going for. When I think 'old world' I see rough edges and a textured or not smooth surface sort of tuscan, not refined crackle. Interesting. sj that grout is a perfect match!

Julie, Taj can skew whiter or creamier. If possible, order a sample of each and wait until your countertops are installed to re access.

Both tiles are very pretty! Because Taj is a natural stone, it would be much better to wait to decide on your backsplash tile until your countertops are installed. If you have a photo of your actual slab, while no one will be able to offer a decisive “yes“ with respect to each tile, they may be able to let you know if one or both won’t work.
