Nothing to do with the truck prep but - this would be a good time to plan how to prep the yard for planting if your dirt is less than perfect. I have clay and I sure wish someone had scraped off the upper foot of clay (getting rid of the grass) and replaced it with real dirt and amendments years ago. Sometimes it's like digging in concrete here.

Most construction sites here lay rip-rap for that purpose.

What "area" exactly are you asking, how to do the driveway, where to stage spoils, . . . .?

Also rip rap is large (6"-9") and used for embankments and erosion, not construction entrances.

How can you own the equipment to do this, and not understand basic grading, compaction, and erosion control? Maybe you need a geotechnical engineer’s plan to move forward.

Because I use it on a special dirt (select fill) that is used for compaction. That special dirt is not good for growing grass. I’ve compacted many slabs but never a full job site.

and I’m also not gonna worry too much about grading until after the home is constructed. That would be a waste of time and effort.

Talk to your excavator, they should be the only trailer besides backfill, and they can unload at the street or if you already have the drive installed, they can back in. Only thing helpful at the pad location would be a turnaround, that just depends on your soil type if you're not dumping gravel for that. If you have a basement or sloping site needing graded, the bucket or blade will be tracks so the pad condition isn't important. If just a slab on grade it'll probably be a backhoe so soft spots filled and stumps ground around the pad perimeter. Concrete and delivery trucks after that are probably all tandem axles so they're used to 3-point turns. For a well rig can't run a construction entrance to where that will probably be.

Wait, IIRC you're building behind your parent's house, so this is already improved land?

Talking about your experience with compaction under slabs, are you only wondering about compacting the building pad?

Not necessarily improved. They’ve cleared about 250’ towards the back. The rest is full of trees and brush. But I’ve cleared (in the back of the property) 200’x155’. I’ve also cleared where the driveway might be.
As far as compacting, I’m talking around the area we will build, not where the slab will be placed.

3onthetree - maybe it's because of the clay dirt but yes, they use what looks like boulders for construction drives here. I can currently see two houses under construction from my house right now.
