Ambushed by Win10 again

Just received another auto update from Windows10 and now I am having to give a log in to every forum I participate in. I have never had to this before. Is there something I can do to stop this nonsense? I participate in about 20 different groups and this is crazy!

I think you shouldn't blame Windows. Something along the way cleared the cache and all the retained garbage saved by your browser and so you need to log in again. That did you a favor, saved files slow down browser and PC performance significantly.

It's a best practice to clear retained files (including passwords and cookies) regularly. Best of all is to set your browser to do so when the browser session is ended. Sounds like this isn't something you've been doing.

Another best practice is to keep a record of your passwords so having to reenter them shouldn't be a chore. To make it easy, for all non-important sites with no personal information to access (like forums), use the same simple password so that you don't need to look it up.

I think Elmer is on target. However...if you really believe a Win10 update is the cause you should at least mention the update(s) you just received and what your current Win10 version is.

Thanks for the responses. We have a Win8 sitting on a shelf collecting dust for 2 years. Never use it anymore. We also have 4 XP's and a Win 7. I've used Win 7 (hubbys machine), but prefer XP. I don't know if I'm resistant to change, I like to think I'm not. But I think Win 8 is dumb and would take me a lot of time to navigate it. I've used it. Did not try classic shell. Hate all the icons and not finding the frequently used places hidden. I don't like the disappearing tool bars. I just think its dumb and regret ever buying it. I don't see any reason for MS to change things around which takes precious time to figure out. Things like Add/Remove, various other settings...it all takes time out of your life to play around when you have work to do. You can buy a new car, it might have added extras and new things which take time to learn. But, no matter what car it is, when you open the door, put the key in the ignition, move the transmission to D, it goes. You can drive around and worry about learning the 'extras' later. You can press on the gas pedal and it goes. To have to learn another operating system and where MS decided to hide things, call them by other names is ridiculous. Same with their Office Programs. They are expensive and complicated to use. Yet they change them around ever few weeks. Why? I do a lot of work on my computers. I don't like having to learn all over again when I have things to do. I didn't like Visa at all, but had to deal with it. I kept my XP because I had Office 07 and I could put together a bunch of letters and newsletter quickly. I gave Vista away and went back to XP exclusively. I wonder if Apple changes their Macs every 3 years? Have no idea but am getting tempted to take a look at their computers. That's my rant, sorry if I seem to be the only one who is very upset with Microsoft for all this nonsense. Jane

Just a question... (1) Are your and your husband's account on the same computer, or separate computers? (2) If so, the computer is back to 8.1 now? (3) Your husbands mail opens and works fine? (4) You have the mail shortcut to click, but clicking it results in the app not coming up? ------------------------------------------------------------ Just thoughts, I'm not a tech... Maybe instead of doing get-appxpackage -AllUsers *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage and possibly removing your husband's working mail, you could do get-appxpackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage to remove only your own? (notice the lack of the AllUsers switch) Don't take my word on that, I may be wrong, wait for someone else, I don't run Windows enough to know my way around. ------------------------------------------------------------- My thought on removing your account, rebooting and adding it again... Might work but I'd probably not be in a hurry to delete my account. Instead, I'd add a second account, switch to it and see if I could get mail working in it. Then I'd make a decision whether to delete the first account or not. That's just me though, and remember, I'm really a Windows user. Just giving you something to consider until someone more qualified comes along. :)

I have a Laptop with Windows 7.0 Professional that I purchased in January 2016...and it is faster than my Desktop Windows 10......I am so happy I didn't upgrade my Laptop....I tried to in May but had a problem and had to take it to a technician.....cost me $30.00 to repair and go back to Windows 7.0 Professional...but it was worth it. By the time my Laptop (with W 7.0 Prof) expires in about four years.... I will have to buy a new Laptop with Windows 10....and maybe they will get the kinks out.... My overall view of Windows 3.l to Windows 10.....they did not improve at all ....they made it so confusing......and I have had computers with W 3.0, 98, XP, Vista, 7.0, 10....and my humble opinion...XP was the best....!!!! If it works why fix it??? I know why...they want you to spend your money....it is like that with these new elaborate cell phones.....I have $20.00/month Virgin Samsung....and it does the job and I love it......I have a ipad, laptop, and two desktops...who needs that new contraption....you can't see anything outdoors with it, can't hear, etc....believe my children and grandchildren. have it....but, I prefer mine....This is only my opinion.......so don't let my opinions upset you...LOL!!!..

Trying to download ITunes to Win 10 computer

You do not need itunes to get your pictures from an iphone. You just need the cord that goes on the plug to charge it. Remove the plug and plug the charging end into your phone and the usb that was attached to the plug, to plug into your computer. It should come up in your window in myPc , and on my windows 10, it looks like a computer tower towards the bottom on the left hand corner. I double click on that, and it does take a few minutes for it to come up for some reason. Then I click on the folder that is in there and all the pictures are there. I put a folder for them on my desktop before I even plug it in, and name it iphone pictures, and the date. I use select all, and right click and copy (or cut) if you want to remove them all and then go to the folder I have made and choose paste, and they all transfer into that folder. I have itunes, on 3 different computers. It works fine, to play music etc, but, my iphone will not work with it, on any of the computers. All settings in the phone are correct. I can use any of the 3 computers to transfer the pictures, by the method above. One computer windows 10 64 bit, and one Vista 32 bit, and one XP 32 bit. It works the same on all of them. My last transfer was to the windows 10 on the 17th of this month.

Yeah, last update just a few days ago put all kinds of ad-crap on my taskbar! Arrgghhh. Tho it's hard to figure out why an update would screw up your browser sign-in info. I have a "secret" file on a thumbdrive (usually not connected) that has all my current user-id and passwords on it that has been very useful at times.

I am not very computer savvy and the above is what I could find on my machine.

I haver kept a record of all my passwords for many years. It is just a pain to have to login on every thing every day.

If you have to logon each day to websites you visited (and had a log on for) the a prior day, then that's because of a setting in your browser. Again, that has nothing to do with Windows itself though if you're using the MS browser Edge, its settings may have been changed with an update. Or, it could have happened with another browser or even at a time when there wasn't an update processed but simply as a result of a corrupted file.

If there are other PC system issues that are troublesome for you (and you're not alone if so), you should consider getting an Apple Mac. Even with Macs, however, users do need some familiarity with browsers to choose among behavior and characteristic alternatives.

Thanks to both of you for your input. This issue is not resolved yet but I am working on it. NO NO not a Mac. I used them from 1983 until 1995. Even managed a WAN that was almost entirely Macs. After OS 9 I retired and went over to windows for my personal use at home and never looked back. The Mac OS had its own share of problems.

Make sure your browser settings aren't set to clear cookies and sign-in info when turning off your browser. Clearing cookies & sign-in info after shutting down the browser sounds like what's happening.

Use Mozilla Firefox as your browser and install Adblock Plus. No ads of any kind and its free. I have Win 10 but have always used Firefox with Adblock.
