Transfer Programs to New Win10 Computer?

I don't need to do this yet, but after DW just mentioned again that our old desktop was getting really old and sad AND I just saw a deal on groupon for a refurbished Win10 computer for $129. Actually that deal will probably be long gone before I would make a decision, but I should think ahead.

Can I easily or possibly move a few programs and their data from the old Win7 computer to the new one. My major issue is that in a couple of cases, I didn't get hard copies of software from my computer tech. I also don't have a hard copy of the Win 7 either, but since the new computer has an OS, I suppose that isn't an issue except for possible disc utilities only available with a hard copy. Actually, I am in less trouble than I might be because we don't really get much of any software on line AND I actually have a 2 yr old hard copy of the Windows Office for Home/student that I have loaded on my 2 yr old netbook. But I believe that my win7 machine has MS Access and probably other extra stuff that could be useful. And of course, I need to move mail programs.

I see that the microsoft transfer program for win 7 to 8 doesn't work with win10 (I never used it anyway). So is there an easy way to do this kind of thing?

If your PC has W7, why are you not taking the FREE upgrade to W10 and installing it on that PC? and when you do this you have the option to save your existing programs. However before you do this you should uninstall any anti virus or registry cleaners except for windows defender or essentials.

I should have given more detail. The Win7 is probably not legitimate. I bought the old desk top several years ago on craigslist. It appeared to have been used in a business environment. It had/has Win7 Ultimate, but it was originally an ME machine. It also had MS Office. After ~1 year, I got messages that the MS Office needed renewing. Eventually, I went to my computer guy, who I guess has purchased bulk copies of various office sweets etc and also upgrades and retires old computers, presumably/perhaps moving their liscenses. He got Office reset. Last year, I had a problem needing his help and he told me that there were now indications that the Win7 ultimate was potentially not legal, but that he didn't have any copies of Ultimate. I'm not sure why he didn't set up a normal Win7 that I assume he has. A month or two after this, I began getting the Windows not real messages with the black screen.

Have an organized hierarchy of folders just for your photos. You will have to decide where you want them and make the folders. When you plug in your camera, I have to use a card reader, but many models that isn't needed, your computer will ding when it has recognized the camera as new hardware. Go to Windows Explorer (obviously if you are on another platform this won't work), and navigate to the new drive assigned to your camera, it will be under all your C:\ files somewhere showing as F, G, depending on what else is on your system. They may be in a series of folders on in just one folder, depends on the flash card. It might be a folder called DCIM, then when you open that or click on the plus beside it, it shows something about your camera name. Open the camera folder(s) (one at a time if there are more than one), and you should see thumbnails of your photos start to be generated. When all the thumbnails show, do an edit>select all. Then do an edit>copy to folder and navigate to the folder you want to put them in. Then click ok or some prompt. Windows will show your photos being copied unless there are just a few in which case it will go very fast. If you don't want to copy all the photos, select individual ones by holding down the ctrl key after highlighting the first one and select those you want. Don't let up the ctrl key until you've selected all the photos you want. If you want a block of files but not all of them in the folder, highlight the first one you want, hold down the shift key and highlight the last one. That will select every photo in that series. Copy to the folder you want as before. If you want all but the first several or so, highlight all of them, then do an edit>inverse selection and it will automatically select all the ones you didn't highlight. These are just little tricks to make things speedier once you get used to it. That's all there is to it. It gets to be second nature. Be sure to back up all your photos at least one place, preferably two, like an external portable hard drive, dvd, cd or something, and don't alter the originals in any way. If you edit them in Photoshop, save them in a new folder. It's good to open your photo, duplicate it, close the original. That way you can't accidentally overwrite your original unless you try very hard. The copy gives it the same name with copy # added. I have a Work File for each month where I keep photos I've worked on in Photoshop, sometimes a subfolder for a special event. Maybe Picasa requires you to use your desktop which is clumsy and dumbed-down way to archive your photos imo.

The Zenbook UX303LN is now history. After the upgrade to Win 10 the touchpad driver would not stay installed. Each time the laptop was powered off, then restarted, the touchpad driver would have to be reinstalled. This is a known problem to Asus. I talked to Asus several times today, and also to Microsoft. Neither could provide any solution. I've spent hours on the phone to Asus and Microsoft trying to get a virtually brand new laptop to run correctly after "upgrading" to Win10, which apparently does not like Asus Zenbooks. I called Asus and Microsoft today to tell them I give up. I'm not spending all my free time on fixing this. After I got off the phone, I took a hammer to the laptop and jumped up and down on it. It's in the trash and headed for the landfill... I'm getting out my Mac Book Pro now....

I use to have a couple of very Cheap Bluetooth Dongles that I used and they worked great. They did after many years of service fall apart! I tried replacing them with more expensive dongles and couldn't get them to work. Snidely is right, kinda hit and miss. I do however think your problem my be deeper. Since the release of Windows 10 there have been lots of problems with WiFi Adapters and Bluetooth Adapters not functioning correctly or not at all. The 2 Acer Laptops I purchased a year ago had Windows 8 installed when I purchased them. I installed Windows 8.1 shortly after the purchase. The WiFi/Bluetooth Adapter worked great in Win 8 & 8.1. Once I installed Windows 10 on July 29th neither the WiFi or the Bluetooth worked. I ended up buying two New Cards for the Laptops and now the WiFi/Bluetooth are working great. My sister purchased the same laptop with the same WiFi/Bluetooth Card, after the Windows 10 upgrade her card works fine, no problems. The funny thing, the card that stopped working worked fine in a different Acer Laptop with Windows 10 already installed!

You do not need itunes to get your pictures from an iphone. You just need the cord that goes on the plug to charge it. Remove the plug and plug the charging end into your phone and the usb that was attached to the plug, to plug into your computer. It should come up in your window in myPc , and on my windows 10, it looks like a computer tower towards the bottom on the left hand corner. I double click on that, and it does take a few minutes for it to come up for some reason. Then I click on the folder that is in there and all the pictures are there. I put a folder for them on my desktop before I even plug it in, and name it iphone pictures, and the date. I use select all, and right click and copy (or cut) if you want to remove them all and then go to the folder I have made and choose paste, and they all transfer into that folder. I have itunes, on 3 different computers. It works fine, to play music etc, but, my iphone will not work with it, on any of the computers. All settings in the phone are correct. I can use any of the 3 computers to transfer the pictures, by the method above. One computer windows 10 64 bit, and one Vista 32 bit, and one XP 32 bit. It works the same on all of them. My last transfer was to the windows 10 on the 17th of this month.

Why not go to the link and try to DL the Free W10, if you have enough RAM=speed and a big enough HD=hard drive, here's the link: P.S. Be patient it takes time first you download then install.

Interesting thought although I would assume with every boot giving the not legit message and the black warning screen, that there would be no chance; but who knows? However, I have a very small hard drive and certainly slow by modern specs, so I wouldn't be able to perform a conversion anyway.

I wouldn't buy a used PC, nor a refurbished one from other than a legit seller that offers a warranty, unless that's all you can afford.

Operating system copies are like samples of gasoline. Either they work or they don't. Other than the longer support period, Win 10 offers the average user nothing extra, no more capability than Win 7 and 8.

You don't "move" programs but they can usually be easily installed on a new machine if you own a copy or it's something free.

Oh, I agree forget it! also agree never buy a refurb. unless it's from an online store you can trust. And so many good deals on brand new PC's so buy new if possible.

Win 7 Ultimate is a business OS that is current as most "real" businesses would not be able function with consumer garbage like Win8 or Win10. That is why real business computers continue to ship with WIn7, even thought they technically have a license to use Win10. I administer 460 computers in business that would virtually all become useless with Windows 8 or 10.
