Interested in opinions on Wolf/SZ Grand Kitchen Event Rebate

We're ordering a full kitchen and pool cabana worth of appliances as part of a new home construction. As I understand the rebate, our fridge (IC36RIDRH) and range (DF36650SP) qualify us for either three years of added protection through "SZ Care Plus" or $1000 rebate. I'm inclined to go with the rebate as I'm always skeptical of what's covered under care plans but would welcome opinions!

Additionally, if I'm reading the form right the additional appliances we're ordering would give us 5 points we could use for the following rewards:

- 10 Piece Cookware Set (2 pts)

- Stand Mixer (2 pts)

- 7 Piece Cutlery (2 pts)

- Elite Countertop Oven w/ Convection (1 pt)

- Multi-function Cooker (1 pt)

- High Performance Blender (1 pt)

- Precision Griddle (1 pt)

- Programmable Coffee System (1 pt)

- 4 Slice Toaster (1 pt)

- 2 Slice Toaster (1 pt)

- True Temperature Electric Kettle (1 pt)

Anything in there you would strongly recommend we allocate some of the 5 reward points towards? I'm leaning towards the 4 slice toaster and blender but not sure on remaining 3 pts...

Any opinions at all on the $1,000 rebate vs. added warranty?

I'd probably go with the $1,000 rebate since your units are so new and the likelihood of your needing service beyond the initial service period is relatively low, especially since you get an extra year on top of the standard warranty if you use a certified installer. I love the SZ counter oven and considering getting one myself when we remodel our kitchen! Definitely go with the certified installer, even if it costs a little more to install!

We have a 30" Wolf DF range that we purchased on 2/19/2007 and a 30" SZ fridge we purchased on 3/15/2016. To date we've needed no warranty service on the fridge and the only repairs we've had performed on our range fell well outside the warranty period. The heating element in our oven failed last fall and over the years we've replaced two burners on our stove top.

That said, I was recently offered a similar deal on the purchase of two SZ designer series under counter units that I'm installing in a coffee bar and a wet bar. I chose to go with the additional warranty to get me 6 years of bumper-to-bumper coverage through SZ.

My reasoning is that these are built-in appliances and from reading past Houzz discussions, under counter units no matter the brand (i.e., SZ, Perlick, ULine, etc.) all appear to suffer from failure/repairs more often than a range/full-size fridge. Also, these under counter units are the only built-in appliances that I'll have in my house until I remodel my kitchen.

I can tell you that overall the support I've received to date from Wolf/SZ even beyond the original warranty period has been nothing short of AMAZING!! In fact I just called them yesterday when my fridge started making a crazy loud noise. The person who answered my call was able to quickly offer some trouble-shooting tips. We discovered that a plastic bag may have been blocking something in the freezer vent and as soon as I removed the offending item the noise immediately went away. :-)

willinak, I'm sorry for the late reply. I'm only here when I am shopping or doing research. Our Wolf was purchased in the Denver, CO. Before, I was seriously considering a used 30" Viking AG for $2000 off Craigslist. It was a few years and need a cleaning. I called the next day, and it was sold. For this reason, I thought our wolf range seemed like a good deal. I was lucky, again, and found a short riser for the wolf on ebay for under $20.

We put more money into the appliances we thought we'd use the most. So in our case we splurged on the Wolf 4 burner/griddle rangetop and Wolf hood. We then saved by getting the LG cab depth fridge. I found the FP double convection ovens on sale through a tip here in the kitchen forum, saved about $1000 on them and had them shipped across the country. We got the Asko dw for the efficiency and quiet. The biggest savings alone was on the LG and not getting the Wolf full range, but splitting it up with the rangetop and FP ovens. You should also check dent and scratch sales...even the high end appliance dealers have them, usually once or twice a year. At least here in the Seattle area you have to go early and get in line...but you can find some incredible bargains, and the dents or scratches are in places you normally cannot see. The problem with Wolf/SZ is that the local distributors control the prices, and you cannot buy across distributor lines. For example, I found the SZ 650 was $1000 cheaper in Chicago than it was in Seattle, but I could not order it from a Chicago dealer unless I was going to rent a truck myself and drive it back on I-90. That would eat up the savings and take 3 days, LOL. However...you can occasionally find cheaper deals in other cities, and as long as you are willing to ship it yourself, you can take advantage of that savings, even on regionally controlled brand names.

Yes! We got it sorred out. So it turned out to be a loose circuit breaker. It was the new sub panel put in for our kitchen reno. We had some electrical work done and hired an electrician tonadd some recessed lighting. He ran it back to the new subpanel and he comes up from the basement nd asks if we were having problems with the stove. I said yes. He said he noticed the breaker wasnt seated properly. It was making a connection but just barely. He popped it out and popped it back in and sure enough I went and ran that oven at 500 for an hour with no issues. The cause imo was the weak current was causing the computer to think there was a fan issue. An anomaly. Want to say we have since moved and it was a relief to be able to have that taken care of. I will buy Thermdor again! They did send us a new range (after repeated service calls). So would so donit again

48" Range: Wolf, Thermador with Steam, or "simple" Thermador?

Our steam oven In the 48 inch model was leaking then stopped working. We finally had it replaced. New model came. And it leaks too! If you get that Thermador with the steam I don’t think that steam oven will last. They could never figure out how to stop the leak to replaced it. Needless to say we aren’t pleased the new model leaks too. Very frustrating with what seems to be faulty engineering.

We just ordered a Wolf range and SZ fridge and took the rebate. 1,000 bucks in my pocket now felt like a better deal than the chance to maybe save some money in the future.

Also my cash rebate offer was approximately 10% of the purchase price which factored into my decision to go with the extended warranty versus the immediate cash rebate.
