hard wood in bathrooms?
Comments (13)A lot of people do hardwoods everywhere these days. But, on national average, 60% of the population moves every 5-7 years and never stays in the home long enough to judge how it wears long term. If you do choose to do hardwood in wet areas, then get water alarms and be extra vigilant about things like dog bowls and hamper locations. Those are prime areas for damage to occur because they don't generally move to let the wood under them dry out....See MoreCan a hardwood have tooo much hardwood?
Comments (33)Yeah one finished room. (Of course still full of dust) They finished our bedroom yesterday. Still have to enventually come back and do the closet, but for now have moved on to the great room. camlan..Their doing the same thing here. Running the wood with no seams from room to room. I hope ours eventually "glow" right now they just glow of dust, but it still is looking nice. judydel. I like to buy rugs at TJ Max HomeGoods. Patty Cakes.. Oh no. The stairs is what inspired us to do this hardwood job. We just finished painting the stairs yesterday. The carpet that was on the stairs was old, dirty and ugly. It had to come up. My kids are teenagers, so hopefully safety wont be an issue. We'll see if they become too loud, etc., we can always eventually add a runner to them. beth..Your floors, rugs and house are beautiful. Thanks for sharing the photos and experience. work.. Thanks for the advice. I'll remember this for the near future. Id love a sweeper I could run on the floor and not have to worry about damage....See MoreHardwood floor bathroom and wood subfloor: shower on top of what?
Comments (16)@User : thank you very much for raising very good points, appreciated it. The contractor spoke with the city and the city saw no problem with the open bathroom concept, but they said the fan will have to be sized based on the entire room size, of course. My contractor did bathrooms bigger than this bedroom and knows how to size the fan. The fan will have a sensor that will run the fan when humidity is above a user defined % ( I guess 55%?). Why do you think it needs a separate dehumidifier and AC? My friend has a non-open concept bathroom with a wood floor that itself is 17'x17', bigger than my room, which is 15'x15'. My friend huge bathroom has no mold, and it just has a very powerful fan in the middle. Could you please elaborate why this 15x15' room with open concept bathroom should have mold? As for waterproofing, you mean on the pan? Any suggestion for that? Note: here in north Florida there is no ice. @Mike Blasko : had a meeting with my contractor, I ruled out tiled shower floor meeting woodfloor, he said it is crazy. I gonna get this pan and he suggested to put it on top of the hardwood floor, with a thin mud bed. He said that this way the pan will keep the planks from differentially warping. He also said he is fine with cutting woodfloor at the shower pan and put pan on mud bed on top of subfloor, but he would prefer the first options. Thoughts? @Mike Blasko : could you please elaborate on the Fire & Ice barrier? I guess for North Florida is the Fire barrier. What is it?...See MoreThreshold/transition bathroom tile.
Comments (3)I think I would just put the new tile (assuming same thickness) in butted up to the old tile. No marble threshold would be needed. If there is a difference in thickness so that you have a safety (or convenience) issue, then put in the marble threshold....See MoreHelen
