Sunbrella Rain cushions from Pottery Barn not waterproof?

We recently spent a LOT of money on an Indio Metal furniture set from Pottery Barn. The furniture is fine but the cushions we purchased to go with it, which were advertised as waterproof Sunbrella Rain fabric, are not even remotely waterproof. After a single rain every cushion in our set was soaked completely through the fabric to the core. A few days later they had all started growing mildew. We're a little baffled as this is supposed to be outdoor furniture but it's completely unusable unless we cover everything every single time we go inside. Pottery Barn Customer service simply said "it's supposed to be waterproof." Has anyone else had this experience with Sunbrella Rain fabric from Pottery Barn? Is this typical of Sunbrella Rain in general? Or is it possible that the Pottery Barn cushions are not the real deal, or perhaps defective? This furniture was WAY too expensive for it to be unusable.
