Problems with IKEA Bodbyn white cabinets?

Hi everyone!

Im hoping to get your personal experiences.

Ive read that in the past, there’s been issues with IKEA’s previous line of cabinets, specifically the Lidingo white doors, yellowing over time. The amount of time it took to yellow varied, and the degree of yellowing was seemingly random.

The thought was that this was due to light exposure. IKEA was aware of this issue/defect but, according to old posts, this yellowing didn’t fall under their warranty policy.

IKEA has since come out with an entirely new line of cabinets, under which this door style is now called Bodbyn white.

Im curious to know if this yellowing issue has since been fixed?

I will be renovating my kitchen soon, so your feedback on this is very much appreciated!!

Please tell me your experiences if you have personally used Bodbyn white or know someone who has, since it changed over to the new line of cabinets.

- How long have you had the cabinets?

- Any issues with yellowing or any other problems?

- Do you love them, hate them, or somewhere in between?

- How durable is the paint finish, over time?

Anything you can share with me would be incredibly helpful to me in making my decision. Thank you!!

I have the high gloss white cabinets from the old line they are 14 yrs olsd and have no yellowing anywhere even with the oven cabinets where I use the cleaner often btw I have huge south facing window with no blinds in my kitchen I find often what peope say is yellowing is a problem with hteir lighting so make sure all the bulbs are LED 4000K . I use Ikea 80% of the time in my design business and have for 22+ yrs never had this issue . IMO still the best bang for your buck

I used IKEA cabinets w Bodbyn doors in a previous kitchen renovation, however we were only there for 2 years after installing the new kitchen and moved out 5 years ago or so, so I don’t have much experience with them and their long-term durability.

So I greatly appreciate you sharing your experience!

During our time with that kitchen, I was quite impressed with the cabinets and ease of cleaning.

Thank you everyone for your comments. It has been such a journey, but so glad we did it. @practigal I sure did! we had around 30 cabinets total or so. @Karenseb I actually am not sure what was used for lighting or power exactly. The electrician provided them, but they look pretty standard. Here is a picture. Sorry for the poor quality. I am pretty excited. I just ordered a bunch of reclaimed black walnut to wrap the brick wall in and to add some floating shelves to the right of the exterior kitchen door. It looks like this:

We are looking at lighter Granite now too...started with quartz and our favorite has been the Silestone Pietra but I keep seeing a cooler blueish tint in it which we want to avoid. Our cabinets will be white and I'm looking for that warmer taupe grayish look but not too brown, too busy, or too dark. I'll have to check out your Granite! Curious if the pricepoint was similar to the quartz you were looking at or if your Granite is considered an exotic? I'm finding the lighter Granite tends to have a higher price.

IKEA Bodbyn White Doors Turning Yellow?

Ikea has had several issues with white doors yellowing in a very short period of time. They became aware of the issue in 2013, but it existed for probably 5 years prior to that realization. They acted to remedy it shortly after that. I have had warranty service on two Ståt kitchens (in rentals) for yellowing doors. Not only do the doors yellow, they yellow at different rates, so side by side cabinets will have one white door and one yellow door after only 4 or 5 years. So far as I know, Ikea did fix the issue.

we don't know what you room looks like. asking us to help pick a color isn't going to work. Your lighting can make paint colors appear differently then they do on a computer monitor. Plus the fact that we have no idea what a "grayish-oak flooring' looks like. And, do you expect us to google each one of those paint names to see what the color looks like?? Help us out here and post a pic of the actual colors, your flooring and your room. Otherwise, just get a few favorites that you like and sample them on your wall

Installed off-white Bodbyn in 2020, and had an extra door stored in the garage since, still in the carton. As of now 2024, there is some yellowing noticeable when comparing the installed doors and the one that had been in the garage. Not too bad, but I confirm : some yellowing takes place over time .

I have Veddinge doors and they still look quite good after 9 years. Did have to replace the integrated dishwasher front after about 5y, but that was easypeasy and very affordable.
