Mirror too close to the wall for a sconce
Comments (9)We have the same situation as you. We have a 67 inch vanity that is fairly close to the doorway so we didn't really have space for a sconce on the side of the mirror. We consulted a bathroom lighting designer and he suggested placing the sconces (lugarno from Restoration Hardware), on top of the mirror and then place three cans in the ceiling across the vanity, thus light would come from different directions and help create more flattering light. We opted to not go with the cans, and, are just going with the sconces on the miror. We will also have a light fixture over the tub, and a can over the shower drain. For ambienece lighting we will have lighting in our linen cabinet and lighting underneath the freestanding vanity. Good luck!...See MoreHanging a wood framed mirror over a wall to wall bathroom mirror
Comments (33)ThatÂs what I was afraid of. I didnÂt want to put ideas in peopleÂs headsÂbut that is the reservation I have. I think having to use it on one side of the wall, asymmetrically, doesnÂt work. I was SO sure it would look great, and be really like the finishing touch in this room. Darn! The thickness, bulkiness, of it bothers me too, in that place. Too much mass. I thought, before I tried it, that it would balance the weight of the solid looking vanity. Instead it just makes it look like too much weight on the left side of the room and nothing on the right. Having to one side bothers me with the light fixture too, and I love that light. It doesnÂt show well in the photos, but is a stained glass repro I ordered from a craftsman lighting company, in a custom size. The mirror is discontinued, so I canÂt get another to balance it better. It doesnÂt look right centered on the big mirror either. Too odd when you are standing in front of the vanity. Sigh. I love this mirror. Buying this one when it went on clearance was what made me decide to have a craftsman bathroom in the first place! (Well, that and it opens off a craftsman family room.) I have one open wall on that room, where I used to have a framed picture. IÂll try propping it up there. The craftsman family room already has a mirror....See MoreHow Many Decorative Mirrors Are Too Many?
Comments (45)I tend to choose mirrors over art. I like the way they play with light in our little cottage and reflect the outside views. I can count art on one hand, but I can't the mirrors! Mustang, your wall reminds me of something we did in our daughter's room. I started with them different finishes, but I ended up painting them all the same shade of white. It bounced the light beautifully. (BTW, I love looking at pics but am scared to death when it comes to sharing. This has always been our "we'll only be here awhile" house, so I've decorated with whatever I can find for pennies instead of what I want. Read: hodgepodge!) In our living room I've actually lost track of how many different mirrors we've used for a little while then moved. That room has great morning light, and I just can't help but fill it with mirrors. This was taken before everything was in the room, but......See More? about complementing paint colors (mirror/red cabinet--too much
