Those pics are a little over a year old. We're comfortably in now. :) In those pics, there are two places where I see green. One is in the top right corner of the little recessed place where the sink window is. Right out that window is a covered deck and I have netting panels tied at the posts, so it's a heavily shaded light that finally makes its way in. The other is above the pantry. There's the doorway on the right, then a spot for fridge, then spot for wall ovens, then there are two (you might have to try to see them) opened full length doors, fairly shallow. Those are the doors to the pantry. So above them, just before the corner, will sometimes show green. But again - I think that's the affect from the shaded light. And as for quantity of lighting - yes, there's quite a bit of light there. This is the other half of the kitchen, as though you were at the island looking the opposite way. That triple window bank gets continuous indirect light. No windows on the other side though. Lighting is fickle. It works on color, which is measured in degrees Kelvin. "Full spectrum" lighting is sunlight. The color of sunlight is 6500K, or 6500 degrees Kelvin. So "full spectrum" bulbs are supposed to burn at 6500K. The higher temperature/K you go, the bluer the light. The lower you go, the oranger the light. Generally speaking, incandescent bulbs burn in the low spectrum and fluorescent bulbs burn in the high spectrum. I think the warmer you go with your lighting, the less you will notice a green hue. As an FYI - the "best" color CFL bulbs I have found are ones I got at Lowe's. Second best were from Target. Neither were the $$$$ ones. They are both labeled as a "warm white" and don't take forever to burn to their true color. (I used to keep saltwater reef tanks, and had to know a LOT about lighting to keep the critters healthy)

So, I went back, copied, and am pasting it in to whom I meant it to be for! I feel so STUPID! boxer kills me with all those fabulous pics. I try and post/research but get so sidetracked staring at and following all the pics/links. I'm just not feeling the dark granite for your space. From your pics it seems almost like a Mid Century kind of home... BEAUTIFUL! I think your stonework on your fireplace is just gorgeous. I would not paint it. However, with all the angular lines of the walls/ceilings/stonework; I'm somewhat bothered by the wood walls. I love wood, covet your wood floors; but I do think your home would be so much more "refreshed" without the wood walls. I also think it would make the fireplace really POP. I'd either take the wood off and skim coat/paint, or I know I've seen episodes on some home remodeling show where they used some product to fill in the cracks and then skim coated/painted, OR... last resort... pull the wood off and re-sheetrock and paint. I'd love a soft gray color against that stone.... a warm light gray. ANyway... to countertops. Are you kitchen floors the same wood? Sorry if I missed that somewhere. I think I'd choose a light almost white gr anite for the kitchen. Your cabs are going to be a beautiful rich color. If the floors are also wood, I'd love the soft look of a whiteish granite. HOw about something like Andromeda White? Alku05 has it in her gorgeous kitchen. I hope it's OK I'm embedding her pic: A closeup from Granitestock's site: Another one could be Kashmir White. It has a little bit of brown in it: One more...GraniteStock calls it Wine River. I don't know what else it goes by but it's a white with movement: Let me know likes/dislikes and we can go from there. There are a million great backsplash choices to tie this all in!

That a bit of help. Natural flooring would be beautiful. Do you plan on getting rug? It appears you have done cool art. Could you post that for inspiration. You really need to wait on wall color until you do floors. It will really impact wall color. Unless it will be years away. There is a sequence that saves money in the long run. Any remodeling like wall removal impacts flooring. So get that done, repair flooring then resurface floor. Then wall color. If you won’t be doing floors for a while, but a rug and let that help drive wall colors. The fireplace is pretty neutral so many wall colors will work. Plus, thousands of paint colors available. Hope this input helps. I know your post is about paint colors. But paint has to work with all elements to work well. Personally, greiges are passé. Lighter brighter color palette are strong now. So what do you think now?

It’s a really cute house but they outgrew it as soon as they were both working at home during the pandemic! When the baby arrived… well, the house is not actually big enough for just the baby’s stuff, never mind the people. She and her DH want their kids to go to public schools (he did, she didn’t) and that, plus proximity to us, a huge drop in crime rates and lower avg home prices here than in the big city all drove their decision. Her DH wanted walkability which he has where they are now although the crime statistics are really bad. He will be within jogging distance of a great small urban area and they are golf cart accessible to everything in their new city. It’s a good tradeoff and thankfully they are both excited about the move!
