Most garages are painted white because it's what the builder used throughout the house. New home owners seldom think to paint the garage and by the time they think of it they don't want to move the stuff that is being stored there. My Sis painted her garage a beautiful medium green and I'm thinking of doing the same. I like patty's idea of using the same as the exterior, but since I have a brick home I think I have more options. BTW, if you're not happy with the yellow, there's no reason it has to match the flooring. There are sooo many colors to choose from!

Comedy of errors (only after we had a few drinks was it comedic) 1. We greatly underestimated the effort to paint textured walls, especially on the ceiling. That and we're 15 years older than many of the projects we've done the past. 2. Turns out we got the wrong color paint. I'm not sure why I had a different color paint stuck in my head and even though I checked color swatches I still got it wrong. And now that we're going to pay someone to do it I definitely want to make sure the color is right. Only after I came back to this post did I realize I gave the store the wrong color. We're going to suck it up and pay someone to do it which is good because that also includes trim and doors. Although now I have to take a week off of work. Good news: we can donate the paint to Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

@Sabrina Alfin - Well, that wasn’t my choice - it was my SO’s decision. We are basically renovating my entire house (he’s moving in with me) - and I basically have free reign to do whatever I want on the inside. So, I let him coordinate the back side. Seemed lime a good trade at the time. i wasnt theilled when I saw the drawings/plans for the covered patio area. I discussed it with him - and since the back of the house already didn’t really represent a ”colonial” style style, I gave in to him. It just wasn’t worth arguing over. I figured that I could change the detailing by roofline + paint cedar in furture if I decided to without spending a lot of $$. This way I get the kitchen of my dreams!

IMHO, "classic" is in sync with original style, although colors/elements can of course be updated and current. Does not mean exact reproduction of the original - that can be kinda stodgy and lifeless. A fad meanwhile is doing whatever is being hyped in the popular media regardless of whether it fits a house or not, whether it is good design or not, or whether it makes sense financially, architecturally. So yeah the stark black and white thing is but a fleeting trend that will surely pass. Maybe you have to be old enough to remember the early 90s when people got tired of dingy whites and hopped on the trend of mushroom colors. On the other hand, I have to say I have seen lots of examples on this forum and in real life where blackk and white can be quite attractive design-wise - - and ultimately ..... "because I like it" is certainly a good enough reason to do whatever you want! But "classic"? Uh, no... So all that said I vote for List's 2nd B&W version above - with brick left intact. There are masonry stains/ toners like in a grayed or sooty tone that can tone down the redness and leave it much like in List's illustration. Or not! Where I live - old urban city- its red brick in all its original glory that is considered classic and an essential part of the industrial esthetic You asked why I would not paint the brick - so many reasons but mainly in this instance because of esthetics. The solidness of brick visually supports the roof, and combined with the brick of the stairs frames the entry in a very pleasing kind of way. Paint obscures the texture and defintion of brick. If your brick is only on the porch, prob not much to worry about, but if it extends to then exterior walls of the house then any color on it needs to be breathable or water vapor gets trapped behind the paint film causing mold issues (in warm climates) and brick damage (in cold due to freeze-thaw cycles).
