Are you fencing ONLY because of the child, or is there another function? If only because of the child, then you need only a basic fence, and a parenting strategy to go with it... because any fence is breachable. Even a brick wall 8 feet high, because one day, someone might park a pick-up next to that wall, or leave some lumber piled up, and the child will see his opportunity. What saves him is not an absence of opportunity, but his awareness that he is not to take such opportunities; not to leave the yard without mom and dad. It's actually not a different lesson than the one that any city kid has to learn about his or her yard. The stakes are no higher or lower, just different. The key ingredient in your child's safety is his understanding that the fenceline is his limit for solitary travel, and the way that that limit will be established and enforced is by your vigilance. As always, it is parents who keep kids safe, not fences, or electrical outlet protectors. OK, you came here for landscape advice, not parenting advice. You're probably a great parent or else you wouldn't be concerned enough to sacrifice your panorama for your child's safety. But what I'm trying to say is that you don't really have to. Build a fence by all means, and one that is hard to climb, but build one that you like, that preserves the view, and that won't cost you the child's inheritance (chain link will). Sounds like a fairly rustic setting, so maybe a picket-type fence with narrow pickets (which are actually harder to climb than chain link!) that allows the view to come through and is attractive in itself. Then put your energy into teaching the child that his free-range territory is INSIDE the fence, and naturally into making sure that he likes being within it. He may even accept the fence without demur because it is so... THERE, and kids like to know what territory is theirs (he doesn't need to know if you "own" that property outside). Even if there are occasional outings to the water, going through a gate WITH mom or dad, kids can understand all that - again, city kids leave their fenced or even unfenced yards all the time with mom and dad, but understand not to do so alone. You don't want a fence that you think you can rely on to guard your child because the fence will let you down. When you think you can depend on the fence, you relax your vigilance - just to go inside and make a tea, just to walk around the house to water something. If you aren't asking the fence to be your back-up caregiver, and if you are consistent in the messages you send the child about the fence, then almost any fence will do. Although I still don't think I would build a rail fence, which would be like surrounding the yard with climbing apparatus - an invitation!

When we lived in PA we had brown vinyl coated chain link installed. This was in the late 90's. Aprox 375 feet for 3000.00. The brown looked sharp and it stood up to the weather conditions!

Wow, this is an old thread! I went to check my eBay history for part numbers to give you, but it doesn't go back that far. In the basement below the ice maker, I have a McCann pressure booster pump that boosts the water pressure to 90 PSI. After the pressure booster I tee off for the still water and for the McCann Big Mac carbonator (You can find deals on them used on eBay if you're patient). I feed the carbonator and the syrup pumps from a 20lb Co2 tank. You also need a cold plate - whatever you can find cheap - if it's got too many passages, just loop your seltzer through it multiple times, a regulator (get one with two gauges!). Everything is plumbed with .375 pex, and clamped together with oetiker clamps. You need to drill four holes in the back of the ice maker - just be careful and make sure you don't drill through anything important. There's nothing hidden to avoid, everything you don't want to hit is right where you can see it - there's basically only one place where you'll find room for four holes. I chose the hole size based on what the local hardware store had rubber grommets for that also fit my tubing. The back of the unit is foam insulation sandwiched between sheet metal and plastic. The holes in the metal and plastic need to be perfectly concentric to prevent leaks, so use a small pilot drill, and a step drill to bring the holes to size. Making the holes and feeding the hose in is the only real "hard" part. And even then it's only hard because you have to get it right the first time. The two water lines go into the ice maker, clamp to the cold plate (leave enough loops of pipe behind the unit to be able to pull it out of when you need to), then out of the cold plate to the manifold of a Wunderbar bar gun. I wish I had gotten a more traditional seltzer tower, since I hardly ever use the post-mix, but I thought the bar gun was cool! I've had this running since 2016, and so far the only thing I've had trouble with is the pressure booster pump. McCann makes two models. The "cheap" one with the diaphragm pump, and the expensive one with the vane pump (16-2170) - I don't know if the expensive one is good, but I assume it is. I do know that diaphragm pumps universally suck - they're loud and they break. Don't get one! You do need some kind of pressure booster to get the water pressure up to 90-100 psi before feeding it into the setup though.

Keep in mind that Aluminum fencing is categorized as "decorative".I have seen it bent by basketballs and mangled by lawnmowers.Jerith and some of the other US made aluminum fencing are the best,stay away from the Chinese imports.A much better option is the Montage steel fencing.Home Depot sells it now and it is made in the USA. Although aluminum doesn't "rust" it does corrode,Iv'e worked on plenty of rotten airplanes(aluminum) to attest to thos as well as some heavily corroded Esther Williams aluminum walled pools.
