Looking for exterior house update ideas
Comments (19)Sidelights matching the door, functional shutters with shutter dogs, beefy posts (consider round columns to soften and repeat the curves on the window installations.) How about a new surface for the porch? It looks rather utilitarian and cold (like the builder ran out of steam) and you seem to have clearance at the door to add wood. Or you might professionally stain the concrete. The example below isn't the color I'd suggest, but you see what a difference it makes. Door, shutters, columns Stained concrete, beefier posts...See Moreneed help with ideas on how to update the exterior of my home
Comments (2)Several things you could do: Remove the flower bed in front of the door; it’s usually not a good thing to plant right in front of your main entry. Mentioning the front door, paint the bright white trim to match the door. Same on the garage - match the trim to the door. Remove those shutter-ettes from the second story windows. Very obviously fakes. Have you thought of a shade of green for your house body? Samples below. I like the brick and it goes well with your roof....See More1941 cottage front house needs an update and ideas!
Comments (8)I agree with t eh others, remove the awning, get nice handrails made (can be fancy or simple really, this era took inspiration from everything) I also agree to ditch the white trim, it is too skinny to pick out, all black will be much more sophisticated. I would look at custom windows to fill in the arch- that T shape was just the cheapest option- three custom casements would be so much more elegant and complement the style of the home. This is very much your house sans the awning and all dark trim (I wouldn't use chocolate brown but you get the idea) Either of these options would be better on the sunporch...See MoreMy son just bought a house and we could use some ideas to update it.
Comments (17)Celery... all of those are beautiful options! I will have to share them with him and see which one he likes the best. Paul- I agree. I like how Celery made the area under the windows a feature instead of an eyesore. I also agree the columns need beefed up a bit....See MoreKW PNW Z8
