cleaning glass shower doors-easy!
Comments (7)We have a frame less shower. I had no idea the amount of time it was going to take to get and keep all that glass clean and clear. I've tried Rain X and HATE it. The glass never looks clear to me. It always looks filmy, foggy or streaky. Years ago my MIL told me how she kept her tile shower looking brand spanking new. After drying herself she'd dry the shower tiles and tub! WHOA! I didn't have time to do all that! I was a busy mom of 2 little ones! Now here we are 30 years later and I have 'the time'. LOL After every shower I wrap myself in a towel and take a hand towel, fold it up to be slightly larger than my hand and wipe down all the glass, the fixtures and then the walls. I re fold the towel for each section so I'm always starting off with a dry side. By the time I get to the walls, its not as dry but those aren't as hard to get dried as the glass. I polish it off with a micro fiber cloth as needed. I even sometimes wipe the floor. Both towels get spread out to dry and are reused after my next shower. It was a tough habit to establish, but I forced myself to do it. This takes less than a minute and doesn't have to be perfect. That's the secret! You do have the time-- if you just do it! The shower and glass look great all the time now. Getting most of the water dried up keeps mold from growing in there. Of course I had to do a very good scouring to start off with and vinegar and dawn made it much easier. Now its just a quick wipe down after the shower. Most of the time I follow up hubby's showers with a quick wipe down to keep those spots from showing up. If I miss a time, its no big deal--just be sure to wipe down after the next shower. (There's no way Hubby is going to dry the shower himself) This beats having those nasty water marks and soap scum build up and having to set aside a huge chunk of time to get in there and scrub it all down every couple of weeks. Comments (5)Be extremely careful deleting duplicate files with any program. I read stories of people doing this with EasyCleaner and end up having to format their harddrive and reinstall the operating system. Take a close look at the so called duplicates that ToniArts EasyCleaner finds, in reality all the files listed are not duplicates. Below is just a short example of so called duplicates. Notice each file is different and they expect you to check them and delete. Not me, no way, I want my programs to work. That's why they warn you to save in the recycle bin in case something doesn't work, but how often do you check all your programs before you empty the recycle bin....See MoreFrom fab to drab
Comments (36)I can imagine how you feel, but your new house is cute and cozy and has a lot of potential. It's really a blank slate and I think you can make it your own without too much trouble and expense, and I also think you will love it (in time because it won't all happen overnight). Can you live with the 7' ceilings? As a pp said, that sort of thing can't be changed easily; the decor can. In my opinion you will have a totally different take on your LR after you take out the carpet and put down some HW. Is there already HW underneath? If not -- well, our house is a little 1949 ranch with almost no distinguishing features except the HWs. Site-finished narrow plank oak, and I am completely ruined for any other kind of wood floor now. We put it in newer parts of our house to match the old. I just love the look. Only problem, and it's not a small one, is that living with the installation and finishing is awful, especially if you go with the harder-wearing oil-based finish (which I recommend since our newer floors with the water-based finish scratch and scuff much more easily than the old). You pretty much have to move out while the woods are going in, but I am so glad we used this. It adds so much character to the house. Here's a pic of our floor: old floor to the right, new floor to the left. The new floor is slightly higher than the old because that room was originally a deck which became a screened porch which became a den (the wide trim molding you see was originally the exterior wall of the house). Anyway, when we ripped up the carpet in the den we found what may or may not have been asbestos tile, so we just had the HW laid over the top. See? Your house is only 15 yrs old so you are already way ahead of the curve. No asbestos, no lead, probably no scary homeowner-installed wiring either (we found an ancient extension cord INSIDE a wall; it had been used as "wiring" to another addition). And yes, that is probably Sharpie marker on the floor. Oh well. And your kitchen -- oh gosh, you can TOTALLY work with that kitchen, how much depends on your budget (gut vs cosmetic) but seriously, you should see ours. Installed in the mid-80's by my dear husband long before I came along and his favorite color is tan. It's all white and tan laminate and melamine. And he chose it all himself (and we are now on a serious budget) so I have to be very circumspect about changing anything. You are, as I said, SO ahead of the curve there. haha. Comments (59)We are currently under contract for full asking price (all cash) after 4 days of showings and two offers, so I (smugly) feel qualified to answer this question. This is our third time selling and the second time with a quick sell in a buyer's market. Here's what we did: Interviewed three real estate agents. They all came up with the same selling price, so we chose a flat fee agency and are saving $12,000 in commissions. This agent was very good, took professional pictures, wrote the listing, posted to MLS, dealt with contract negotiations, the whole shebang minus open houses which we didn't want anyway. Super happy with this company. I did research the agent on Realtor.com before choosing him. Took our agent's advice on pricing. We were not in a hurry to sell, looked at the comps, and agreed that our agent had us solidly in the middle of what we could reasonably expect to sell our house for. Through the 9 years we have owned the house, we have updated everything, including having our very small Florida yard professionally landscaped. Fixed everything that was broken Cleaned everything Repainted where we couldn't clean the walls or trim adequately Decluttered, put a bunch of stuff in storage Staged the house nicely Put everything personal away for showings The only things on counters were decorative Bowl of green apples on kitchen counter for a pop of color against the granite Hung fresh white towels that we don't use in the bathrooms Used tasteful artificial flower arrangements in most rooms Fresh mulch in garden beds Refreshed flowers in front borders Trimmed hedges and trees Turned on all of the lights before showings House was spotless for showings (we don't normally live this way, but it's worth it to get top dollar for our house and not prolong the painful selling process) Turned on our Sonos to soft jazz music Got ourselves, our cats, and the litter box out of the house for showings Here's what we didn't do: Neutralize all of the colors in the house. We have earthy tones of blue, green, rust, and aqua in our house, but everything is not beige, white, or gray.. Get rid of curtains (I posted several months ago about this, ultimately decided to keep them) Hire a professional stager Set the table with plates Scent the house with anything We met our buyers on Saturday for the home inspection and asked them what made them want the house. They said: Loved the landscaping Looked professionally staged Clean and inviting Didn't need to do anything to the house Looked well taken care of We are super happy with our experience selling this time, love our buyers, and are looking forward to the May 8 closing!...See MoreJilly
