Beware Lowe's Appliance Sales
Comments (28)I bought my appliances at Show Low, AZ Lowes in early 2020. Wasn't told they were floor models, bought the extended warranty also. Didn't deliver and when I called was told the cooktop was missing a regulator so they ordered a new one. The other appliance is a double wall oven also a floor model. Finally got them delivered. They were purchased for a new house in TX. Didn't get to move when scheduled due to the pandemic. Moved in Jan. Had gas lines run to the new house for the cooktop. First installer finally came 6 weeks ago to measure, etc. He told me the oven had the wrong power cord on it, I needed the outlet for it changed and have the circuit upgraded. He quit so the company declined the installation. Last week a new installer came. Neither of the appliances has any internal parts have power cords changed so only lights work and the heat source can't be activated by customers. Paid for the installation through the local Lowes, Bastrop, TX. Now nothing can be installed and repairs probably aren't possible without totally rebuilding it. Manufacturer warranty expired before I even bought them and the Lowes Protection only covers installed appliances, funny they sold it to me knowing they weren't installed. Call and call and sometimes someone answers someone always has to talk to their manager who isn't there right now but they will take a message and have them call me back. Still waiting and I call about every other day. Have even been into the store and been told the same. Oh and the store where I purchased it says I signed an as-is document, that they can't produce because I never signed one. I would never have purchased floor models I was told they were special orders that had not been picked up. Boy have I learned a lesson....See MorePoor quality in today's machines
Comments (28)For the last 35+ years I repaired/serviced my own laundry equipment. My Kitchenaid and Whirlpool TL washers and dryers lasted 20 to 25 years and were replaced when I moved or when the washer finally rusted at the top of the inner tub. Nine months ago I sold the TL washer and dryer that were in excellent condition and purchased a Speed Queen FL washer and dryer. I hoped to save water, electricity, detergent and most importantly clothing wear and tear. I recognized a better built product when I saw it. If you take the units apart and you will observe commercial quality components without the fancy options. I do not need fancy options to clean laundry. Based on my observations with the FL washer and dryer, Speed Queen is not cheapening their products by substituting plastic for metal. After researching the issues, I placed my money with Speed Queen and I expect reliable and long lasting products. How many manufacturers use a stainless steel outer tub? Have you heard of mildew/mold problems with Speed Queen equipment including those abused at Commercial Laundromats? In addition, the size the FL is fine for my family of four. The FL gets the clothes clean without needing long cycle times. The dryer dries quickly and its moisture sensor works better than the one I had in a Kitchenaid dryer. In my opinion, Speed Queen marketing could be significantly improved to allow better public access to their products. Seeing, touching, inspecting, and comparing products would allow the consumer to make an informed decision based on component quality, reliability, warranty, price, cabinet size and energy efficiency. Speed Queen designer colors consist of stainless steel and white. Speed Queen can not compete based on initial cost or fancy features. If consumer priority is based on cost over a 20 year period, Speed Queen is very competitive. As the size war (interior volume) continues in the home washing machine market, consumers need to ask themselves how big is big enough for thier use and space allocated for laundry equipment. Speed Queen has years of experience in the commercial laundry business, but only markets one size washer (either FL or TL) for the home consumer market....See MoreAny washers that work?
Comments (54)YES! Miele's work! And they LAST because they are engineered to do 3 loads per day for 20 plus years! Get on Craigs List in major metro areas closest to you. See if you can find a Miele washer/dryer pair for under $1000. It's fairly easy to do. Make sure they are running and less than 10 years old. (You can check with Miele service to find out the last date a particular model was manufactured.) If you have to call Miele service for a "thorough refurb" on the washer you'll pay at MOST maybe $400 and that would be bringing it back to brand new condition. The dryer's cost less to refurb. Don't do it if they're working. Wait until / unless you have a problem. Chances are you may wait years for that "problem" to develop. Lot's of people bought Miele's for $3400 - $4500 for the pair and cannot afford to keep them when they're loosing a house or cars are being repo'ed. Their loss can be your gain. Bargain well, show up with cash and someone to load/haul it. I've seen buyers price things at $2000 for a pair and take $750 in cash when you hold it out and say "it's all I can spend and I'm ready to give it to you right now - if you really want to sell them and if you have no better offer, at least you'll be done with ads, showing them, etc. And I'll get them out of your house right now - today! No waiting for a man/truck to show up. They're already here!" Lot's of times they'll go for it. Worst case, they say no and keep them another month and wind up getting even less than you offered in a month from now! Give it a try. With the durability of Miele's, you can really save some serious bucks and wind up with a great washer/dryer. Good Luck!...See MoreMaytag Bravos dirty laundry
Comments (27)Ha, this 3-year-old thread just won't die. I posted above that I have the Bravos dryer with steam and wished I hadn't spent the extra money. Well, after trying the steam more often, I can now say that I'm glad I have it. My Bravos washer extracts so much water in the spin (even on low spin speed) that I like to add dryer steam to de-wrinkle. My Bravos set is 4.5 years old and going great. My daughter bought a TOL Bravos set earlier this year and is very happy. She does several loads of cloth diapers each week, in addition to regular family laundry. Her husband is a Marine and does his own laundry, you can imagine how dirty his uniforms are. They are very happy with their Bravos. I will add one other comment. My daughter didn't have time to research the new W/D set when she had to buy (cross-country move plus new medically fragile infant). What I (the designated researcher) found with this year's models is the TOL Waveforce doesn't have water heating on every cycle, the Bravos does. I continue to be mystified how some people have problems with the Bravos, while others (like my daughter's family and me) love theirs....See Moredadoes
