I need help finishing my open layout living space!!!
Hi everyone, I would appreciate your feedback on my living room and general open layout space. i love my espresso, dark wood tv console & dining table furniture pieces and just purchased the marble tables but can’t decide if I like them or should stick with wood. I know a popular trend right now is the McGee and Co look with lots of light/natural colored woods. Should/can I incorporate that?
More info:
-I’ll be painting all interior walls Modern Gray by SW
-The curtains will be removed and replaced with motorized shades, (color help, please!)
-Rug is a stand in, would consider a different style but not a huge problem right now
-Need a dining room rug (I tend to go with Pottery Barn)
-Including pictures with new marble table and old wood coffee table
-Ignore gray side chair (it’s my hubby’s and just moves around the house as extra seating:)
-Chandeliers need to be replaced with more modern/transitional chandeliers
-Need help with artwork locations and what kind. I am wanting to replace my 9 piece gallery wall with larger 6 piece white frames. Should something go above the cutout? Perhaps a 3 piece canvas print? Or a large landscape print?
-Need a better entryway console. I think it needs to be closed storage and possibly have a drawer for keys/sunglasses.
-Want to add pouf ottomans
-Need decor ideas for console and dining table

Comments (5)It would be possible to put a play corner in the first two drawings but not in alternative 2. I would recommend a corner of storage furniture to corral the toys. I am usually a fan of built-ins but not in this case because eventually the kids will outgrow their toys and you won't need that storage there anymore. The built-in exception would be a window seat under one of those windows on the plans. Some of the storage could be cabinets or bookshelves for bins or toys underneath a window seat. I'm not a fan for toy box style storage because they either become a black hole or the kids throw everything out of them looking for what they want and then do't put the rest of it back. As for the kitchen placement, near to the deck would be best in you like to eat outdoors on the deck or entertain on the deck. We entertain a lot and the kitchen is on the other side of the house from the patio. It's a real pain and a big part of my design brief for the architect was for the kitchen to be next to the patio. Comments (4)Scrap wood is certainly fine and it what I use in my garden. First make sure the box is located where it will get at least 6-8hrs of direct (no shade) sunlight, not daylight but direct sun. If you stand between it and the sun you will see your shadow. It looks like there may be some things nearby that will block the sun. < I should get a tomato cage for the tomato plant, right? Do the peppers need anything?> You can try the cages on the pepper plants, often the soil is too soft to support tomatoes in cages but can work for peppers which won't get as big or heavy. But for tomatoes I like Upright supports screwed to the side of the bed. I found some links from days gone by but feel free to search for more. http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/2162223/can-tomatoes-and-peas-climb-twine Vertical Support Not sure which side is North in your photo but make sure you plant your taller plants (tomatoes) on the North side. This is so the tall plants don't block the sun. Spacing can be taken from the seed packet - use the seed spacing after thinning since you won't be thinning. Draw it out on paper to see if you will have room for what you have planned. Keep a Garden Notebook. Each spring review what went well last year and what needs improvement. Winter is a good time to plan the next garden layout, plants, etc. Start small and try to avoid overcrowding. If you want more plants next year make another box. Cherry tomato plants tend to grow very tall (vines) and will provide lots of tomatoes. I am so glad you are teaching your son to garden. Kids are like sponges and learn so quickly then will ask you questions you never ever thought of to make you think AND learn. HTH and good luck.
