Lived in Europe for 35 years so was not used to open plan. Do a lot of entertaining and cooking. Used to hate for guests to see what I am doing or the mess. Getting used to it now and guests and family are now more inclined to volunteer to wash the dishes and clear the table, so that is a positive. Re smells, always buy scented candles and use before guests arrive in addition to the ventilator above the stove.

I recently did an addition and defined it with arches and columns. It's breathtaking!
