Oh joy! Good it worked. Nice plump ones Annie. So many ways to get there. Same with making mustards. You can take 2/3rd's and stick blend, add some mustard flour like Coleman's, horseradish, yogurt, fresh or dried herbs.... I added a big blob to my taco sauce last night. This jar, where the black rubber band is located, is the dry seed fill line. Added a squirt of AC vinegar and filled with hot water. Sat back of counter for a few hours and it more than doubled. Somewhere around 12-18 depending on your room temp, they will start to sprout and on their way to plants. Not noticeable until about 24hours being such small seed. Sprinkled on just an inch of clean soil, (I use coir), they will be salad in about 6-10 days depending on temp...same seed you use to make your mustard pickle.

Neely, your roast beef looks incredible. Oh, I'm sure the first thing hubby asked, was where's the yorkshire pudding!!! Vacations are nice to go away, but it's always nice to come home, too. 2Many, you're already a master at sous-vide. Wow, just wow. We have fuses in our apartment, and I have to remember to turn off the portable a/c when I want to run the microwave. We've blown a few and I hate trying to figure out which fuse is which. It doesn't always look blackened. The labelling isn't very clear inside the fuse box. I'm astounded at the meals you're producing in amongst madness. Annie, I wouldn't want to be travelling and staying in Seattle! Is it a specialized hospital with a lodge/hotel type thing where parents can stay? Similar to Sick Kids in Toronto, and Ronald McDonald house?? I hope so, for your sake. Poor Ashley Our landlords are away for a couple of weeks, and they've given us free rein on their garden. Hubby has the therapists come once a day and twice, if they can manage it. They have him walk down the hall with a walker and balance himself on the hand-railings along the wall. I take him outside in a wheelchair to get some fresh air, and he propels himself with his feet. They talk about sending him out for re-hab as soon as there's an opening. Then they tell us that he has to be fully self-sufficient.......shower himself and dress himself, they wear clothes. Well, if he can do that, he really doesn't need rehab! There's a sign above his bed saying that he's prone to falls (which is what sent him to ER to begin with). Looks to me, like they want it to happen again! Grrrrr.

Well, it's not really Amazon that's killing stores. It's the convenience of online shopping converging with people being on the 'net 24/7 with their mobile devices. Think, I need a 3/8" Phillips head screwdriver, and instead of making a note and setting a reminder to look at the note, so that tomorrow you remember to stop at the hardware store, with an extra 10 minutes to park, only to find that you can either buy a set of screwdrivers, a set of screw bits, or individual metric screwdrivers at that store because there's not so much demand for American when people are using them on imported goods, you just look it up on Amazon Prime, decide that the price is good, tap a couple of buttons and it shows up tomorrow. Perishables are different. At Whole Foods, Amazon is selling a lot of vegetables in packets that you can't break up (at Ralphs, a Kroger owned chain, if you don't want the whole packet you can usually just open it and take what you want). Additionally, the packets usually have some rotten ones and the quantity in the packets is too big. (TJ's, who do sell a lot of packets, have more appropriate portions, better prices, and while the whole bag may go off too quickly (which they refund no questions asked), if you look though the clear part, you can see what's up. They don't hide a number of not good pieces in with the fresh ones to "eliminate food waste" like Amazon does. At Whole Foods, nowadays, I don't dare buy a prepared salad. They shove the trimmings in, the stems, and the thick hard inedible spines of the leafys (I'm not talking Romain spines, but quarter inch thick fibrous, only good for stock pot and not really even good for that, most closely compared to a cross between strand board and carpet backing). This is in the grab and go entree salads from the produce department. So, you've grabbed and gone so aren't there to complain and demand recompense. Great little racket they have. Their trash gets thrown away at someone else's location so they can claim to have less waste. Tomatoes aren't indistinguishable. I don't buy tomatoes at TJ's because they over-chill them and they have no flavor. But I can buy tomatoes anywhere and find lovely ones. I want to choose my own!! Not have some company box them up with rot!! I want a firmer one for slicing, and a riper one for guacamole and a fragrant one for a salad. And I want the nice man with the big smile and long apron to help me find a melon that's nearly ripe off season. Amazon has gotten rid of all the smiles in the produce department. They give the workers time quotas for accomplishing tasks that remind me of the old parable about how Pharoah tricked the Israelite slaves into working ever harder and faster making bricks. These quotas don't allow for chatting with the customers, helping them find things, etc. The same people at WF who used to be happy and nice all seem grumpy and harried now. At TJ's they try hard to keep their employees happy. Many start singing while they're working (not performing, just forgetting themselves and being happy). All are friendly and eager to help because that's a big focus of their training. I can deal without the humans buying a screwdriver, or even canned tomato puree which most stores here don't even carry anymore. But for actual, real, fresh food, I want real people selling it. Maybe Amazon can indeed crush TJ's. But I doubt it. At least, maybe they could by imitating the good points of TJ's and getting rid of a lot of their bads, but I think the corporate culture there think like robots not people, and they don't understand that part.

John the scallops look amazing, I LOVE scallops and haven't had any in a long time, I ought to go see if I can find some. They'll definitely be frozen, I never find fresh ones here in Michigan, but they would do. Oh, Jasdip, the bread looks perfect, and the hamster made me smile. The kids used to have those, they're cuter in pictures. (grin) OK, I'm off to start a new thread, I have pictures because I bought Elery a sous vide device for our anniversary... Annie
