Most people here will suggest that you live in your house and test samples of paint in your rooms at different times of the day. One person's white is another person's creamy is another person's green undertone is another person's feels blue in the north facing room. Some white colors do better and low light situations while others wash out.

I know it's an inconvenience to move into your home and then have painters come in later on but it's the best way to understand how your home 'lives' and how the sun interacts with your home. I know it could be very expensive to paint the whole home the same color so I would hate for you to pay all that money and then dislike it when you get in. You haven't even seen how the current color will work with your furnishings; you might end up liking it.

The fact that you're nervous about SW Alabaster, a very nice white means something. Is it too much to ask for you to move into the house and live with it and see how it speaks to you so you can find the right color that goes with your furniture, decor, and lifestyle?

For example, in my last home in Fort Worth that was a NorthEast/Southwest facing home - I chose Sherwin-Williams Softer Tan. I took me almost 6 months of testing chips and then buying samples to find the right color meanwhile I lived with the scuffed builders greige. I love this color, but it would not be right for the new home I'm building in Raleigh that's a south/north facing home.

Thanks Jen. I was really hoping to get the paint done and out of the way. We have an 8 month old baby at home so it would just be easier to have the painting done before we move in, but I definitely do see your point! Here is the photo.

Agree with Jen K. You need to see how the color changes over the course of a day, and also how the colors appear in different rooms/walls.

Kara - I totally understand the point. it would be nice to move into a fresh home and I have to worry about anything but putting stuff in drawers.

I can't imagine that many whites would be off-putting. There are quite a few threads about choosing white paint and the experts discuss undertones and values and light and all the good stuff.

one way you could choose a white is by looking at the paint family from which the white comes from.

For example, Sherwin-Williams has cools, warms and neutrals. SW Alabaster is in the white and pastel color palette. it has a high reflective value. from the articles, it sounds like it is a good neutral.

I choose Alabaster as a possible sample for my last home but because there was so much light in our west-facing living room and dining room it turned white which is not what I wanted.

I know this isn't scientific but when I look at where Sherwin-Williams has included the colors in its color collections, it gives me an idea of how they visualize it.
