I agree, a ticking pattern works with prints. I'm determined to buy a PB or LLBean ticking duvet cover this winter (every year I talk myself out of the expense),and I use patterned sheet sets all the time. The photos posted finally show what I have had to imagine in my head.

Do a mix of paisley, "global" and striped prints. Avoid harsh geometric prints unless there is not deep contrast in the colors used on the geometric pillow. For example, you could do geometric prints if the colors on the pillow were taupe and off-white but not if the colors were red and off-white. I would also consider incorporating the blueish color from the rug in some of the pillows. It's a beautiful color! With the dark floors and dark couch, I would keep the pillows on the lighter side instead of going with deep solid colors. If you have a Home Goods or a Cost Plus World Market near you, that might be a good place to start for inexpensive, colorful pillows. Good luck!

Thank you BAC717! The rug is probably my most favorite item in this room and honestly I never would have even purchased it if it were not for the help of my fellow Houzzers. I do not have a good eye for decorating, and these guys have really helped me see the possibilities. We've been in our house for 7 years and this room has always been a struggle. it just seemed gloomy and blah! To me, the room has so much more character now and it's more "me". My 2 posters came in the mail this week. I'm going try to get them framed and hung this weekend. We are still undecided on a paint color. Someone recommended BM Natural cream, which I like; however, because I want to use the same color throughout the entire first level, I have to make sure the wall color works with the kitchen cabinet color (BM Dove White), which has grey undertones. I'll check out the color you recommended also. I have a bunch of paint sample cards but no real contenders yet. Good luck with your room. Let me know when you post and I'll check it out.

Thank you Judy. I was thinking watery blues also. but I don't trust my sense of design. I will post photos of the couches and also my inspiration - a photo from Arhaus that I have held onto for years. I''ll be back with photos. Thank you again.
