Need suggestion to baby proof house stairs
Comments (8)I understand that sleep deprivation with a new baby in the house can make one forgetful, but I really think you'll be able to remember the close the basement door. DH and I have twins, and we physically "tagged off" so we knew exactly who was in charge of watching the boys when they were first mobile, and until they could be trusted alone together for 30 seconds without poking each other in the eye, biting, or throwing blocks at each others' heads. If I was home alone with them, I would bring them to the bathroom with me. Our house was well baby-proofed, but that simply doesn't replace supervision. Here's an example. My Mom has a lake cabin, and we go there a lot in the summer. The rule for our sons was that they could not go on the dock without a grownup. I know a lot of people who let their kids on a dock if they are wearing a life jacket, but I much preferred direct supervision until they were big/old enough to be safe on their own. Each of my kids managed to fall off the dock, with me within inches of them. One went in feet first, and I simply pulled him up by the arms; the other was fishing, on his hands and knees, leaned over, and went in head first - between the dock and boat lift. Again, I was inches away, and pulled him out by the feet. Had he been wearing a life jacket, he would have gotten wedged in the narrow space, head underwater. Being on the dock with them did not prevent them from going in the drink, but it allowed me to yank them out immediately. Trust me, you can keep an eye one one little one for the few months between crawling and negotiating stairs (teach her to go down feet first). Accidents happen - I get that, it's why they aren't called "intentionals" - but I think accidents are more likely to happen when we rely too heavily on contraptions and devices instead of eyeballs....See MoreKnow how to get child support / custody changed w/o lawyer?
Comments (3)Copy your existing Custody agreement with a few minor changes. It should be just name and maybe address changes. Where it says the ex has sole custodial custody and you both have joint legal custody (assuming that is the current arrangement). Change it to where your husband has sole custodial custody and joint legal custody. Leave the child support thing out of the paperwork so she doesnÂt trip out about the money and not sign the paperwork. Once you have the custody issue straightened out, then look at the child support issues. You can then use Pashan idea for getting cheaper lawyer fees or if your brave, just send it in yourself. I skimmed through a book call "Divorce for Dummies" a while back. It had a lot of information about do-it-yourself divorces, which included lots of information to custody arrangements. Also, don't forget to ask the friend of the court, what paperwork is needed or any other advice. Tell the friend of the court that she could not deal with the teenager and sent him to come live with you AND he is in school. Our public school system needs a copy for the custody agreement stating the child resides with the parent who is in the school district. Also, remember the longer for SS lives with you, especially if he is doing better in school, the better your case, if it comes to a fight. Obtain or save he records from his old school and for the new schools for proof in case needed. Good Luck. I am glad this problem is behind us. I will say a payer for you and your SS....See MoreHow do you child-proof a glass cabinet door?
Comments (13)Different kids are definitely different. I remember a neighbor who had one child and was pregnant with her second at the time telling me, after watching my youngest, if my second kid is like yours I'm going to have to actually babyproof, aren't I? Yes, yes you are. Lol. Curiosity is good. But it does make safety more challenging. (And I have known a few kids who would have needed top cabinets locked too, fortunately my curious kid was not a climber.) My oldest wasn't like that so it was a bit of a surprise to me; and an aha moment that kids pretty much just come the way they come. Sorry, no suggestions. Good luck!...See MoreHelp! How to babyproof an open stair case
Comments (13)While I know aesthetically it may not look the greatest, is there any way to attach a 1x4 or something to cover the back of each stair horizontally that you could stain and then remove when the kids grow older? Maybe screwed to each side as a riser that may not reach the full distance vertically between one step and another? Just thinking of safety for the next few years if it’s going to be an issue with curious adventurous kids. I know no matter how careful you are , they find a way to scare you. My son climbed up the outside of our banister up the stairs all the way to the second floor railings at two. He was totally fine, and scared me to death! It only takes them seconds to get into something!...See MoreHALLETT & Co.
