Comments (39)"These early years with your child are by far the easiest years for a parent. There are no equivalent plug covers or cabinet door/drawer locks for a teenager." So true! Parenting is hysterically amusing and heartwrenching and everything in-between. We all have rules & trust & safety widgets & eyes on the backs of our heads & still our kids are skipping just out of reach. I once tackled a 3 year old on a chair leaning over our ancient electric Hotpoint pushing the back buttons. "I make eggs!" she said. Yes, her belly pressed against the burner she was turning on..... Nowadays that independent 3 year old is an independent 16 year old pushing all kinds of buttons I can't even see......but I do trust her with 22K burners on our Blue Star. How the years fly! I don't know what a good stove sitter runs in your neck of the woods but I'd make sure s/he understands there are no cell phone chit-chats, no manicures, and no bathroom breaks while on duty. Same deal as your disposal sitter! Good luck, Jenna, we're all in this together!...See MoreHow do you stand up plates in cabinet with glass shelves?
Comments (4)My old hutch/china cabinet has glass shelves and it came with clear plastic holders. The back of the holder hooks over the back of the shelf and the front of it sticks up a bit to hold the bottom of the plate as the top of the plate leans against the back of the cabinet. Somewhat like a "Z" that fell forward if you look at it from the side. I've never tried to buy any, but I'm sure if you search on line you'll find something. Good Luck!...See MoreGlass doors on my cabinets? See pics - Cabinet door profile
Comments (7)Since you're going to be painting the cabinets, you might think about just replacing all the doors. Get the ones in the style you want with glass, then the rest to match with solid center panels. You could then pick a style that will have the proper edge configuration for handles. A local cabinet maker should be able to do this for you. Or check around online. There are several companies that only make cabinet doors. My BIL built his own cabinets, but bought the doors. It may or may not be within your budget, but doesn't hurt to ask and check out what's available. We're in the middle of doing this now. We had the cabinet frames stripped down and bought new doors. They should be finished next week. We decided not to have any glass doors, but they were available from the door company if we wanted to have them. Since you're painting your cabinets, you don't have to worry about the finish matching....See MoreFor those with glass doors, do you line up shelves with mullions?
Comments (25)For me, this is where function trumps form. I need my kitchen cabinets with glass (all for dishes or glassware) to work with what I'm putting IN the cabinets themselves. I do not want to be limited by having to have the shelves the same distance apart when what I'm putting in these cabinets doesn't work for me that way. In my LR, I worked for a week getting my bookshelves, that include some antique wooden boxes and antique porcelain, properly lined up, balanced and symmetrical. So long as the books were in the cabinet by general type (fiction/classics/non-fiction), it was important that the shelves look "right". But my kitchen? NO! It's a working kitchen and it simply must work for me. In the end, the shelves are level across but it took multiple times moving these shelves around to get just the right balance and have them still hold what I need on the proper shelf....See MoreEric
