Pros/Cons of AG vs DF Wolf in my configuration
Comments (16)Ha! We would be empty nesters but...we have had a few extras in the way of nieces and nephews and friends living with us due to transitions in their lives and now my son is back to town from school and looking for a job. In July we had a full house between semi-permanent guests and short term guests. I also cook meals that go out to my dad and sometimes others. When I watch the grandkids, I try to have dinner when the parents return so they don't have to cook. All this means I am generally cooking for 10--rarely just 2. If it is just the two of us, sometimes we just eat out :-))(date night!). I do use my wall oven the most but I am so glad to have the range oven and there are times that I almost could use another oven, more for a different temperature than capacity. On the other hand, I cooked for all these years with a 30 inch oven. The key for me to look effortless is having things made ahead. We have had "flying plates" dinners for 35, that consist of multiple mini courses that come out one after the other. Everything is premade on half sheets and the ovens got a workout for that. It seems like the family gatherings just get bigger- weddings and babies. Our extended family can be 30-40 and we have several parties a year for 60 or so. I also have had many wedding and baby showers, milestone birthdays and funeral dinners that range from 35-70 people. We also had rehearsal dinners but semi catered them. We didn't go with a warming drawer because the ovens go low enough to function that way and sometimes I use the rangetop. We had large disposable catering trays of pasta for a family dinner a few months ago and they kept warm on the simmer burners without scorching. I think one of the benefits of the warming drawer is that it keeps the humidity in the food so with the steam oven, you might not need it. If you haven't had convection, I think you will love it but it isn't for everything. I look at it as a tool and only use it when it will be a benefit to what I am cooking. I am still learning about it. I think your modes on the steam oven are different than on the regular oven. There is a slow roast vs a roast and convection roast. I would read the use and care manuals on all the appliances to better understand how they work. I don't agree with all of Wolf's recommendations for convection baking though. Convection is not the optimum thing for cakes or anything that needs to rise at least in the first part of the cooking cycle....See MoreWhich dual fuel range??? Bosch Pro vs Kenmore Pro
Comments (5)Bosch!! Hands Down this was our choice for a new range. I researched on Epinions.com too. I urge you to check this out because this really helped me choose my range. What do I love about my Bosch Dual Fuel Intrega 700??? I love the heavy grates. You can put them in the Bosch dishwasher to clean them. Awesome for me. Easy to clean and they look bran new after a wash. I love the large knobs and the look of stainless and black. I love the convection oven options, the dehydration for fruit or meat options, I like the racks and how they pull out very far for me to baste, marinate or check over stuff. I like the warming drawer to keep stuff warm for a busy family. I lvoe the quick convection broil, or conv bake or just regular bake. I love how fast my burners boil water. We were staying at a friends ski lodge over MLKing holiday. They have an old stove in their place that was so slow by the time it boiled water I did not feel like hot chocolate anymore. I realized how fast my range is. It heats so fast if you do not have all your ingredients ready to go you need to turn the burner off. I love the time cook plan and the auto on or off. I like how fast the oven warms up. My son prefers to cook his snacks in the Oven and used to be a Micro only kid for his corn dogs, nachos, hot pockets, bagels bites.... I don't like the gas on glass feature. I am told it is easier to clean than a stainless with gas grates. However glass really is a pain to clean because you have the burners to content with. BUT, the sealed burners are wonderful. If you have ever had food boil over onto a burner you know too well the horror that is to clean and make the burner funciton again. But the sealed burners mean when hot melted velvetta cheese boils over because your dimwit daughter wasn't paying attention it can not ruin the burner. My daughter never has to worry about boiling over velvetta cheese again because Bosch has this cool opti simmer burner. It doesn't boil over. Well, lets just say she can text, listen to music and be distracted from cooking and the cheese has not boiled over yet. I love my Bosch. It has been a year and wow this is an amazing range. My DH is a Bosch fan. He knows nothing about kitchens, but he is a car guy. And Bosch is German made. DH loves BMW. So when we were searching he felt the German made brand was going to be a great ride. Tight around the corners, sleek, handles well and is reliable. The Bosch is not a car but it is desingned like it is. You will love it too. ~boxerpups...See MoreChild Proofing a Range Top
Comments (4)Our DCS range knobs require the user to push them in before they can be turned. I believe the GE Monogram rangetop is made by DCS, so there's a good chance yours will work the same way. Little kids won't be able to figure this out (unless someone shows them!). A rangetop is still safer than a conventional electric top where the kiddos can't see that an element is really hot. This is also the time for limits. A kitchen, like a street, should not be a place to play unsupervised....See MoreWolf cooktop/oven or Wolf 36" range
Comments (29)Thank you all for the additional information. The main problem I'm having is I have to decide ASAP since the cabinetmaker will not start until I nail this down - he's supposed to start Monday and we're already 8 days behind schedule. The original plan was the Viking+Electrolux, and wiring has been done already. My original original plan was a cooktop + double ovens, but that didn't work out since there was no other place for the MW. So it was suggested to put the second oven under the cooktop. I convinced myself this was better in case either broke, I could replace each easier/cheaper - this may not be true. A couple days ago I thought, why not a Wolf range (since I was revisiting the whole thing) --- but with them being so expensive, and having to redo electrical --- I thought maybe it's easier just to go with the original plan. I'm glad you sent the info on the Bertazzoni since it looks like that cooktop would actually work with my oven -- I was worried I'd be limited since the Wolf cooktop plus some others will NOT work above the Electrolux oven. So I do have some options there if I need to replace.... Thanks again!...See Moreguadalupe
