What new edibles did you add to your garden this year?
Comments (63)Over the last year I've added 2 varieties of apples, purple leafed plum, lavenders, german chamomile, roman chamomile, chicory, yarrow, elderberry, wolfberry, another hazelnut, borage, garlic, and comfrey, as well as veggies like peppers, tomatoes, radishes, scarlet runner beans, and I've just sown 2 varieties of kale. I added some things a bit late (I just recently found out about edible forest gardens!), so I may need to replace a couple of things that look iffy. This fall I'm hoping to add raspberries, thornless blackberries, red currants, grape vine, and a mulberry....See MoreShare your New Year's Eve Dinner and New Year's Day Meals.......
Comments (32)Angelaid, I love potato pancakes but I would say that is is my favourite version. There is no secret to making these pancakes. I've made them with mashed potatoes that I made specifically for making these pancakes and I've also made extra mashed potatoes for dinner and saved the leftovers for these pancakes. When I make them with the leftover mashed potatoes there is also butter in the mix. This is not a stiff or thick batter. I use a 1/4 cup measuring cup to scoop up the batter. Mere Blanc's Potato Pancakes From:www.thedailyspud.com with very minor changes. 2 small baking potatoes 1/4 cup milk 1/3 cup All-Purpose flour 2 eggs, separated 1-1/2 tablespoons heavy cream Pinch of salt Pepper Fresh chives (or green onions) Butter for frying Cook potatoes until tender Mash with a little milk. Let potatoes cool before adding the remaining milk, cream, flour, egg yolks, salt, pepper and chives. Beat Egg Whites until stiff. Fold into potato mixture. Do not over mix. This is a light but thick batter. Heat a griddle or skillet. ( I used a rectangle electric frying pan) . Brush with butter. Using a 1/4 cup measuring cup drop batter on to griddle. Cook until pancakes are brown and then flip. Serve with sour cream. Here is a link that might be useful: Potato Pancakes...See MoreWhat is your New Year Resolutions on your garden?
Comments (23)So sorry for your loss zach. My resolution is to get every potted rose in the ground so I don't have to do the pot polka, in the garage/basement when it gets cold, back out again when it isn't. With temps going down to the teens tonight, I still have some pots to bring it. I have all the ones upstairs in the garage and I tried to get all the ones in the backyard in the basement last night, but the light has apparently burned out so I will have to go out there this AM to see what is left (and change the light bulb)....See MoreWhat Are Your New Year's Eve Plans?
Comments (64)Was invited to a party with fellow musicians, but it's cold and blowing snow tonight. I didn't want to drive clear over there and up a winding steep hill to the house. The salt trucks have been going up and down the highway. So, I'll probably watch the ball drop on TV like I always do. Need to remember to plug in the crock pot with the pork loin and sauerkraut before I go to bed. It will be done in time for my lunch tomorrow. I like when the meat is falling apart. Happy New Year to everyone, be safe and see you next year! ETA: I didn't stay up to watch the ball drop, first time in many years. Went to bed with a crossword puzzle around 11:34pm., heard a couple of guns go off in the area at midnight....See Morebkay2000
