I'm stuck. Please give me your suggestions for the front yard.
Comments (5)Well, it depends. As Laag once said, the way that people take pictures tells you what scale they're thinking about, and I get the impression, therefore, that HunterGPT just wants plant suggestions, not overall design advice. Having typed my fingers raw a few times giving design advice to people who just want plant suggestions for the "design" they've already done, I can say to Hunter: don't take the big picture photos if you aren't interested in any advice regarding the big picture. It's your house, you can "design" the garden or not to your preferences. Sometimes people have trouble achieving or even developing their vision, and that's where a forum can be helpful. If you want plant suggestions, as I've also written times without number, your best bet is usually your local nursery. Because even if people across the continent exert themselves to suggest the perfect plant, either here or on the shrubs forum, all good ideas are wasted if the plants named are not in stock locally. If you want to use a forum for advice, then your regional forum may be best as those people may have a better idea what you can find locally. And I might also add that it happens that people ask for big picture photos, and then appear to never visit the thread again. So if you do it, be prepared to not get any response beyond the initial. Sometimes that may be because there are actually no design issues, just plant selection, suggesting again that this forum isn't your best place for plant suggestions. Finally, your shrubs will grow. I am just reading a book on landscape design by Joe Eck, and just finished a section he calls "Time." In this he talks about how the maturing garden (in this I substitute the words "yard" or "landscape") becomes shadier, for one thing, and for another, can accommodate fewer plants due to root competition and growth. So do not panic, time is on your side, especially with a Vitex in the picture! I love my Vitex, but the thing can put on major mass every year. Comments (15)I'm not sure from your drawing, but moving the toilet to the wall on the right as you did above might be a more expensive plumbing proposition. In Brickton's version, with the toilet along the top wall, that's where your tub is now, right? So there's already a drain line for the tub which could hopefully be changed to the toilet drain line fairly easily; moving it to the other wall might be more expensive. Do your floor joists run horizontally or vertically in the above drawing? I'm sure someone more expert in plumbing will be able to chime in and tell you whether this is an issue or not. The other concern I have with your version above is that the divider wall may make the whole room feel small, since you're basically dividing the room into three very small areas: shower, sink, and toilet. There's a long narrow corridor to the sink, and someone standing at the sink is less than 3' from the feet of someone sitting on the toilet -- so there's not a lot of privacy gained for two people in the room at the same time, in my opinion. I believe code requires a minimum of 30" in width for the toilet, and I can't tell from the drawing if you have that much space -- and I think it will feel pretty cramped in there if the space is less than 36" wide. Brickton's layout doesn't have those issues. Again, just my opinions. -- Eric...See MorePlease give me your opinion...
Comments (11)Are you sure it's just the paint? When you say the neutrals are "boring" with the floors, perhaps wall art, rugs, accessories "etc" could bring it all up a notch? Paint does a lot for a home but it's not going to do it all by itself. The final effect comes from the finishing touches, textures et al. Lighting is also paramount in how a color shows and in creating a certain mood. Lamps are the workhorses...they're one of the most important ingredients in creating an inviting, warm, cozy...and cheerful room. In a good sized room I think at least 4 lamps is about right. Love to see some pix vs shooting in the dark lol. And yes...I'd probably say it's too much green...too many cool colors DO start to wear on most people I think. I had a pale creamy yellow (BM 206...maybe called Golden Straw now?) painted throughout my foyer and hallways in my last home. It was a wonderful color in all light and was adjacent to my Baby Turtle LR and watermelon DR. Very easy color to work with...worked well with the beige stair runner and other tones as well. BTW, this was a north facing foyer so "cheerful" was hard to get...especially on the one "devil wall" as I call them. I originally tried a pale beige but it was just went too taupey and depressing. I just noticed in the day shot the original green I tried in the LR...too blueish at the north end of the room. That's when I found the Turtle...boy, did that help. Comments (17)Hey all! If you guys read what I replied to the comments, I placed all my succulents outside cause we had a really hot week then. We had a cold night forecast though of around 28 degrees and I was planning to take them back inside but had an emergency and wasn't able to come home. That following day I checked them out and almost all them them had mushy and soggy leaves. Some branches even started falling down I am so heartbroken. There are some that survived you can tell by the color. My question is this, (picture) some of them turned this color but isn't soft or soggy to the touch. Is this a sign that it's going to survive too? Can anyone share measures to somehow revive them? You will notice he leaves on the left (of this particular jade on the blue pot) are still very green. The ones on the middle are pale or kind of brownish and the branch on the right has bowed down. Will it help to cut branches that seem hopeless?...See MoreRelated Professionals
