I don't have children but I think the computer sounds like a nice gift. Does jewelry include watches? I have noticed much fewer people wear watches, particularly young people. Money is always good or gift card to favorite store. Does he have a hobby or sport? Like some type sport equipment, etc.?

If he doesn’t drive, does he use public transportation? Maybe a bus/train pass for a year or more? We leased a car for our DS when he graduated, that was his gift. The lease just ended and he just bought his own car, yay.

My sister gave our niece a laptop computer for her graduation, but she asked for it specifically. I think you would need to get specs from your son before buying him one, but it is a generous gift.

For my own graduation from high school, I got a trip to Los Angeles, from Texas, and I'd never been west of Santa Fe, NM before that. I assume that you mean high school graduation. I did not get gifts when graduating from university, as the expense of that was enough.

And I assumed we were talking about college graduation so now I’m not sure what kind of graduation we’re discussing.

Oh, I didn't mention that it's college graduation. I think he does want a particular programming tool or data management tool and I'm sure it will require a more powerful laptop.

He currently lives at home and might continue to do so for a while, though DH and I have talked about him getting an apartment in town. But I think DS would find that a gift for us, not him! Lol! But, it really would be a gift for him, too. He's had an atypical four years, even before covid, and is finally " finding the on ramp on the road to his life". An apartment in familiar surroundings would be a good next step. (Lars, he earned himself a major scholarship for the final two years, as well as a campus job that was as good as an internship, and he actually still has college fund money left, so when he's ready he can go to grad school.)

Here's how times have changed: when I graduated, I got a car. The guy I was dating got a computer. They cost the same. My car would cost triple that now, his computer would cost a a quarter of the price.

Does he really want a computer? If so, I would try and find out what exactly it is he wants. Or a gift card to somewhere that he can choose exactly what he wants.

Aktillery, I think that’s exactly what we’ll do. DH and he will determine what he wants and needs. It just seems so prosaic! But, he’s not overly sentimental, he’s more practical, anyway.

If he is interested at all in driving, driving lessons might be interesting. They can get pretty expensive. Speaking as a late driver!

If he wants a new computer, I think that would be a great gift If he can order it or give you the specs. Also, new phone? Tablet?
