It honestly doesn’t look too bad, and I’d be a little torn about whether it’s even worth it to install a new vanity. The one you have looks possibly Art Deco and some homebuyers will prefer the older character to newer trends (you could also pay to have its porcelain refinished in a bright white color for maybe a few hundred dollars). I think the most bang for your buck in the space might just from installing a larger mirror and better lighting, and adding more interest to- and lightening up— those drab walls (maybe a cool patterned wallpaper or something)?

PD - The sink is in extremely bad shape. Sharp chipped glass handles, the stopper won't go up or down, crack in the middle of the bowl, leaking from beneath. I got it on craigslist for $100 and it has seen better days. There is a lot to take on in an 160+ year old house and I want to project an image to prospective buyers that repair work is not needed in areas where I can add a non-offensive transitional fix.

I'd put in a Kohler Memoirs or similar pedestal sink. No to a cheap vanity. And get rid of the drab gray walls.

Storage would be very important to me as well as sufficient counter space for even modest stuff normally stored next to a sink like tooth brush, waterpik, cleansers.

I would definitely NOT get a pedestal sink as it has no storage and no counter space. It isn't even that practical in a guest bath. My friend has one in her guest bedroom/bath and there is no place to put anything.

A floating vanity is very modern looking and it would look odd to me in an older home unless the home had been gutted and turned into a contemporary inside.

I agree that the console sink @Sammy suggested are the best solution. There is storage below and some of the ones I have seen also have sufficient counter space so that normal modest stuff can be kept next to the sink where they are used daily.

I sure like seeing all the floor tile and the continuous baseboard. I'd stick with a wall mount sink in that vintage home.

Thanks for everyone's insights here. I'm digging the idea of a console sink with enough space on the edge to hold things and a shelf underneath. I hope I can find one that allows for a floor drain pipe. Is it unusual to have a drain pipe go into the floor instead of into the wall?

I'm hoping with a new and bigger mirror and some bright white towels on the towel racks that it will brighten up the deep grey vibe in here. I would like to not have to paint. I think it looks darker in pics than in real life, but pics have to look great when listing too.

We have another bathroom on the third floor that is even smaller than this one and is considered the "master" bath. It has a Kohler Memories pedestal sink with TONS of crazing . Perhaps I should get a new smaller sized console for up there too so it has a fresher look. The grey walls in that bathroom are a much lighter, fresher gray.

Note, the plumbing goes straight down into the floor. Is that weird to not go into the wall?

No, not at all. Consider how old the house is. Built before indoor plumbing. The plbg would have been added at a later date.
