Comments (98)Hi Tiger,Ryan and Gary Happy 4th guys. Hope you're out there partying!! The Infinity system is running just great. Its so quiet inside the house that I can barely tell its on. I am so so happy with it. Its a real sweet baby. The temperature in Sacramento has been very nice these past two weeks, just in the 80's. Its kind of weird because last month we hit the 100's. I am confident though that this baby can handle it when we go back up to the 90's and 100's. As for the ducts Ryan, the flexi is attached to metal, but I don't know if its the insulated kind. But it is very quiet. I don't hear noise from the vents. I did take a peak into my attic from the ladder and the flexi is nicely layed out, no spagetti up there. Also all direct from the airhandler and no Ys. Well i've been partying all week Gary. I love this baby. But the real big party will be in the winter when its real cold outside and my living room will actually feel warm. For me that will be the biggest test because I can't handle the cold and like it very warm in the house. My old heat pump always blew in cool air when its below 45 degrees outside. If any of you will be in the Sacramento area in the future, let me know and we'll have an Infinity party or we can party Infinityly!! You guys take care and thanks again for all your help. Comments (318)I have mixed feelings — they provide more use of our porch than if we’d just gone with a screened porch. This year we started opening only the bottom panels and using our ceiling fan. The ventilation was excellent and they were easy to open and close. However, I miss the big open effect of opening them down from the top. To close them when they were opened from the top, my husband had to use a stepstool and, at 5’4”, I couldn’t close them completely. After having them for 5 years we still haven’t tackled cleaning the vinyl so our view is getting more blurry — we’re afraid something will break. In retrospect, I wish we’d originally paid the extra $15-$20k for windows and winterizing so we could enjoy the room year-round — to retrofit now would probably cost 2-3 times that amount. Comments (9)You might be able to put the compressor unit on the balcony, and then feed refrigerant to a unit on the inside wall abutting the balcony. Let it cool everything, or else you have to pay for more expander heads and the plumbing. Also the heads have to drain, and I will be happy to regale you with possible issues associated with doing so. A few years ago (in NH) I had installed two Mitsubishi systems, one 4-head and one 2-head. Four of these heads are on interior walls. I think the price was near $20k to cool 2600 sq. ft. If you are only supplementing the building AC in the summer, and doing moderate cooling in the fall, you may not need a very powerful unit. I can say that the compressors and the heads are very quiet. You can hear the fan at the outdoor compressor. It is about as loud as a window fan on low. At one point one compressor developed an intermittent racket, fixed by some adjustment, when the compressor iced up trying to pull heat from near freezing humid air. They are designed to de-ice, but I think between fan alignment and ice build-up there was a bit of overlap that needed to be adjusted. You will need a hole in the wall to contain two refrigerant lines and a control power line. The lines to the compressor unit will be covered by a plastic cover. You will need an outdoor disconnect switch and power feed of 20 to 40 amperes at 240 Vac. Is it practical to get some temperature regulation by opening the home door and windows or is that not good approach and instead we should look at Mini split and/or infrared heaters?
