The Covid Vaccine
Comments (36)I've had an opportunity to hear the senior people at NIH, CDC, and NIAID speak to the board of my organization. Please people, talk to your doctors before you consider opting out of the vaccine - there may be some people who are well advised to wait, but please don't jump to that conclusion based on something you've seen on TV or social media. The vaccines have gone through a wider and more rigorous testing process than most medications - simply because this happened more quickly than usual does not mean that corners were cut, just the opposite. We are so incredibly lucky that these first vaccines have such a high degree of efficacy, but if there is widespread hesitancy (or worse, belief in conspiracy theories) the herd immunity we are all desperately waiting for in order to get back to "normal life" will be much longer and more painful in arriving. There's so much misinformation (and disinformation, deliberately misrepresentations) out there; make sure you're making decisions based on informed medical advice. Fwiw my kids have penicillin allergies and I don't believe that's a risk factor with these vaccines (our pediatrician has told us that most penicillin allergies are actually reactions to the dye used, not to the medicine itself.) Finally the use of Walgreens and CVS to distribute the vaccine is a deliberate choice - apparently some huge percentage of Americans live within 5 miles of one of these chain pharmacies. This is all part of the strategy to ensure that the vaccines can be made available to as many people as quickly as possible....See MoreI got to fill out a Vaers Vaccine Adverse Event form!
Comments (40)The rash happened ten years ago. I went to three doctors about it. Had every test imaginable. And when I did figure out what it was, I told my doctor and she shrugged it off. I also asked her if I could get the medication WITHOUT the red dye in it, and she immediately said not that she knew of. She had never heard of the reaction and wasn't interested in further researching it. But I sure ran up the meter with all kinds of inconclusive tests for things I didn't have. Not that I minded this, but seems like this should have been reported. Also interestingly, since this was for chronic urinary tract infections, no one told me that tinnitus was a side effect of Cipro . . . only found out about it recently since a friend came down with tinnitus. Might explain mine too! Seems like every time some cavalier doctor prescribes Cipro for your chronic urinary tract infections, they might be concerned about you developing tinnitus. But alas, this is just one example of my understanding what it is like to have a chronic condition that isn't very well understood or treated by modern medicine . . . or old fashioned medicine either . . . this is how a lot of people got addicted to opiods for their chronic pain, doctors not managing their medications well, or offering any ideas of how to treat it long term. The same thing often happens with migraine sufferers, another one of my chronic conditions. As for the VAERS form, I dunno. I have no way of knowing whether it was just a coincidence that I got four canker sores after my vaccination or not. Not life threatening so far, so I haven't made it a priority to fill out the form. I will probably do it though, at some point. It's not that "adverse" but seems like something researchers would want to know about, even though they also would have no way of knowing if there was any connection and would need lots more data points to even make it worth investigating. At any given time, thousands of people all across the country have canker sores of unknown origin. No one knows even today what causes them. Apparently it hasn't been a big research priority to find out . . . same with rosacea, which I also get occasionally. We sort of know about it, but not actually why it occurs and what brings it on and what makes it go away....See MoreExpiration dates on covid vaccines?
Comments (0)Tonight I was trying to remember the exact date DH and I got our moderna booster. I remembered we had taken pictures of our vax cards. I brought up the picture and realized something that has me a bit worried. The lot number for both our second moderna shot and our booster shot are exactly the same. We got our second moderna shot in arpil. The expiration date on the sticker for the 2nd shot that they placed on our card states the vaccine expiration date as Oct 6th 2021. The booster sticker has no expiration date but since it is the same lot number did we end up getting an expired booster?...See MoreWhere do I get Covid-19 test kits? Gov? Ins reimburse?
Comments (20)Went swimming at a fitness club with my grandkids. There was a woman in the pool wearing a blue disposal mask with a scarf over it. Both were soaked through. Amazing how some people believe in the magical protection of masks worn in the most ridiculous manner. I see people in stores with their masks below their noses and constantly fidgeting with them. People on trails with sweat soaked masks. Zero common sense....See MoreAlisande
