Canker or die back? unusual Texas weather unusual rose results

Could someone in our colder climates post pictures of each for a comparison. As we are getting warm here in Texas, I am having trouble distinguishing between the two. Fortunately, I have not experienced much canker in my gardens so recognizing it and dealing with it has always been challenging for me when it is suspected. After our -4 degree February winter I am wondering is some of these black lesions are not winter dieback or damage, another thing I am unfamiliar with recognizing.

Thanks folks.

FYI to Texas friends- my roses are coming out like they are on steroids- are yours? Even formally weak roses are sprouting up numerous canes especially the own root plants. Are yours behaving the same? This is not good gardening on my part rather a weather reaction I am certain.
