Comments (9)Janet, you have my sympathy as well. I would only add that you should pick colors that make you feel happy. I know the trend is toward neutrals, but if this is your long-term home, I would not worry about painting for resale, but to choose colors you really like and that flatter you. Look in your closets and see what colors are prevalent -- that is a good clue. Several years ago, I lost both my mom and dad just a few months apart, and shortly after the loss of a very dear friend. I was devastated as you might imagine. Fortunately for me, DH and I had just purchased a fixer-upper, and we had always agreed that we wanted to paint in colors we loved. We ended up painting in a warm palette of spring greens and warm, buttery yellows, and every time I stepped into the house after work, my spirits lifted. We just sold the home, and despite my agents suggestion that we "soften" the paint colors a bit, we did not. We had multiple offers after 5 days on the market it, so our color choices didn't even hurt us financially, and I am convinced that that they helped me through a very difficult time. My best wishes to you and your family....See MoreHelp Me Pick an Exterior Paint Colors to work with This House
Comments (19)You've done a lovely job on your home! Theres alot of work put into that I can certainly see. I'm sure its been a labor of love. We live in a rather cool climate...western Alberta where we can have 9 months of the year be cold. So any extra heating up from darker paint we can take lol. I'd welcome it! haha The white board and batten are staying white, the detached garage will look like the shed and we do have white trim on the house corners and along the top as well as the hexagonal vent at the top will all be painted a fresh white, plus there will be a thicker trim added to the windows....its hard to see the trim now as they blend in with the stucco too much and don't contrast. I think with the added deck, stone and wood for the entrance it will break up the stucco and blue enough. I haven't fully decided yet on blue but its certainly a thought thats going thru my brain instead of a neutral taupe....See MoreHelp pick out paint colors for exterior siding and trim
Comments (0)We plan to paint the exterior siding, trim, and garage door of our house soon and need help choosing a color scheme that works well with our brick and new black windows. I am open to painting or staining the brick to create a uniform look, but my husband is a hard no on touching the brick at all. As you can see, we're growing ivy on most of the front brick anyway. We initially thought white siding with a dark brown or charcoal for the trim and garage door would work well, but I'm worried the house will end up looking dated and busy. Should we go with a dark siding and even darker trim, or use the same color for siding, trim, & garage door? Too many choices. Help!...See Morelindentree27
