Why are you replacing with triple sliding with double (not single)? I am you have thought through this but.... What if you replaced it with standard single door with large glass area (since you have decided to bite the bullet and replace door and spend the money).... I think this will be fine since you have access to the "deck" from the sliding door in the living room. So you still have double access to the deck. Sliding double door versus single door has the exact same access width. The only difference is the amount of light coming in. I think you have enough light that you can do this. I would not do any uppers between the frig and sink to open up the room a little. You could move the frig to that wall, so you have frig, sink, then range on the L going from left to right. This will give you more landing around the stove. I think you will still have enough room for a table in the eating area. Visually, if you are running the cabinets to the ceiling, you need trim that is as wide if not slightly wider than the stiles of the cabinets. Even if the crown is simple in detail, you still need a little more "weight" to balance the cabinets than what is drawn. If you want more modern clean line look (which would not look good with your 6 panel doors), then you can use slab or very plain doors with minimal trim.

What I've tried to accomplish: * an open, airy feeling created by storage mostly below the waist and avoiding bulky items around windows/doors/openings * sink and island prep areas allow window views * friendly seating area provided by 15" countertop overhang * min. 36" clearances (OK according to Sarah Richardson kitchen designer) * use mostly drawers - the IKEA ones are super practical for almost everything * replace the corner unit with the 37x37 one, which is generally considered more functional, especially if you put in 32" super susans (mine holds all my pots *and* small appliances) * suggest a smaller, cuter fridge that is more appropriate to the scale of your kitchen - the layout below shows the 28" wide IKEA one, or you could use this adorable model: e.g. Northstar Model 1950 in buttercup (29.5" wide) * put microwave on a shelf below the counter in the island * I would not clutter up your walls with upper cabinets - minimal open shelving for decorative and frequently used items cabinets below are: 1=37" corner, 2=18" drawers, 3=30" sink, 4=edited-dishwasher, 5=24" wide+12" deep, 6=18" wide+12" deep, 7=24" drawers, 8=36" wide - put microwave here, 9=18" drawers This post was edited by feisty68 on Thu, Apr 10, 14 at 14:41

By using a peninsula you are opening up your entire space! and gaining the ability for 3-5 people to use the kitchen at the same time, in tandem to having 4-5 people being able to sit and look out your kitchen sink windows. Why do you need 4 fridges? So your prep sink is on the top wall, and cleanup sink on the island? Where will you store dishes? I have that setup and it works perfectly. My dishwasher is on one side of the sink and my drawers with all my silverware and dishes on the other side of the sink. I may also want to offset the sink so that the sink and dishwasher are not directly across from the cooktop. That's what I have with 48" aisles and it works fine because it's offset a bit. I can't read any dimensions, but I can tell you that two people cannot sit at the island as shown - the knees of the folks at the corner take up the same space. Yes and the other issue is that you need 60" between the edge of the island and your sofa. It doesn't look like you have that. 1'6" and 2'8" lower drawers, 12" slide out, 36" cooktop, 12" slide out, 2'8" drawers, 24" dishwasher, 36" sink, 18" trash, and corner cabinet to be added. Do yourself a huge favor and forget the 12" slide outs. They are not good. You're better off with wider drawers . You have 62" to the left of your cooktop. You'd be better off with a 2 three drawer cabinets. One 30" and the other 32". And your dishwasher needs to be to the right of your perimeter sink but in reality, you probably do not need a dishwasher. Your trash pullout should be where you do your prepping as it generates more than where you cleanup.
