Ideas on partitioning living room to create home office?
Comments (10)I have a tiny little office -- about 7 x 9 -- though with fabulous windows and a balcony. Personally, I LOVE the smallness of the space, as if feels just perfect for one person working alone. Now, when I have visitors, I do feel 'invaded', because it's a ONE-BUTT space ;-) As a potential home buyer, I'd really discount a house with a 10 x 13' living room. That's not NEARLY big enough to be useful. So for that reason, I'd suggest looking at furniture solutions instead of walls. There are some great wall units that can work well for an office, then close up to hide the mess. (And you can take them with you when you leave.) Could a pair of barn doors (exterior mount 'pocket' doors) be used to separate the living room from the family room to give you the noise-insulation you need?...See Moredecorating living around pole in living room?
Comments (21)Space is difficult to get a feel for. Is the second pic stretched? The room looks to be long and thin. I agree the only proper place for the TV is where the mirror is. The sectional would then need to come forward several feet. That will block the walk way so in my world the sectional doesn't fit. That pole is very unfortunate but with the stair case removing the railing is not going to achieve what you want. The stairs into the home and the placement of the fireplace, well you have two rooms not one in that area. You just re-did the fireplace? I think I would have removed it. It makes much more sense for the sectional and fireplace to swap places., but that isn't possible. Removing the railing, getting smaller furniture you can arrange around the room, you might be able to arrange a room around the pole as if the pole were a tall floor lamp. Still the part of the room under on the other side of the railing will never orientate to the fireplace or the TV, due to the staircase. That pole is where a walk way always will have to remain due to the stairs jutting into the room. I agree with the above, make the lower part of the room a dining room. That has to be why the railing is there to mark where the dining room begins....See Morelighting suggestion for living room/mini home office.

You could also see what aiming the lights upward to wash the ceiling would do. That is not to say that you shouldn’t add other lighting, either lamps or hanging....See MoreHelp with converting dining room to office space
Comments (16)I have an open concept living area so my office space is open to the more formal living area. I recently remodeled and what I did was incorporate as much storage as possible so that things could be hidden away. My printer is installed inside a lower cabinet that rolls out so that it is hidden. This also stores paper. There is an outlet in this cabinet to plug in the printer. I don't need huge amounts of file storage so at this point almost everything is digital but I have one smallish file cabinet to hold some hanging files. My desk counter area runs the width of the wall and also does a turner at the corner. This is where I have my computer. I have upper cabinets which have sliding decorative doors and these hold a multitude of sins - they also complement the design choices of my living room in terms of color and style as they are Art Decoish in style. I have a little covered compartment by my computer which holds my external hard drives which I use for backup and additional storage of digital files. My designer had suggested using a fabric on the wood between the counter/desk and the upper cabinets which would be a decorative way of pinning stuff. My office needs really aren't into pinning paper as I try to get rid of as much paper as possible but this would be an attractive option for people who do pin stuff. I purchased a very stylish (and comfortable) office chair. It is upholstered non-traditionally in teal blue faux ostrich :-). Again this complements design elements from the living room. For me the key was balancing functionality and aesthetics and maximizing hidden storage....See Moreclaire larece
