Here are a few layout options. Its a large room, so having all the furniture pushed against the walls makes it feel barren and isn't cozy. The left option would be best for a reading room. Put a standing lamp behind the chair in the corner next to the fireplace. Use a cozy tufted ottoman with a tray instead of a coffee table to optimize comfort and seating options. Depending on your lifestyle, you can put a low bookshelf behind the couch with a wood dresser as a liquor cabinet against the wall, or put a decorative console table behind the couch with tall bookshelves against the wall. Or you could do a settee / backless bench on the wall instead of the chair/furniture combo. Personally I don't like how they have the chair blocking the built in, but if you need more seating you could put a small movable wood armed chair in that corner. My first suggestion for the bay window area was a variety of plants, but since you don't like them I would recommend a built in. If a built in is over your head, you could do a Hope chest with some cushions on it. On the right is a more visitor focused layout. Matching loveseats should go across from each other with a chair in the corner and a couch in the same place it is now. The couch and chair should each have their own ottomans so that you don't end up with a weird floating coffee table in the middle like they have now. Put some small side tables around all the other furniture to anchor them and use a large rug so that it goes halfway under each piece of furniture.

Painting is fairly flexible - it's a small enough space that painting it back to white wouldn't be a big deal, though the landlord showed me other properties where the previous tenants painted. I don't think they're too picky. I looked up a burnt yellow and that would be perfect for at least some decor/accessory ideas, and would create flow with other yellows/warm colours I have throughout my place. I was thinking of going with copper accessories, but I actually like the idea of sticking to silver for all metals then adding a pop of deep yellow for contrast and warmth. I don't host a ton; my boyfriend cooks with me and my book club is over occasionally. But I'm now wondering if I don't have a great dining space because I don't host, or I don't host because I don't have a great dining space. In other words, it may not hurt to create that area so it's more welcoming to guests. However, I'm very used to having very little dining space so it's not a complete loss if the dining area is used in other ways.

I think that one is ugly and doesn't fit your space. search, "Ikea bookcase hack' or Ikea hacks for media cabinet or shelving. there are a ton of ideas. or try something like this. its a large open wall space. make it look nice and display books, or artwork, whatever. they even have an Ikea hack using Billy Bookcases that look like built ins. paint the wall a dark color if doing white shelving for a more custom look

Thank you everyone! Sorry it took me a while to get back to all these great suggestions. My house has a craftsman vibe downstairs. The entire kitchen is maple wood and there is wood flooring and maple wood build in cabinets. There is a fireplace there with bluestone. That’s why I wanted to pick up blue tones. I want to make changes in the kitchen and living room. @Sableincal, i like the table idea but I could see my little ones climbing and toppling it over. @grapefruit thank you! I do love the door and the idea of replacing the tile with wood. @Beth I am absolutely in love with that white chandelier you posted and the entire foyer in the picture you posted. The rug color is on point with my wall color and space. I like the wall panels also. I’m not so into plants but I could see how it would bring beauty to my space. @queenmargo, yes the trunk needs to go. It’s such a strange little cove. Best to not bring attention it it. @Design Interior South, the outside definitely does not flow with the inside. The exterior is a light grey with white windows as you see. Inside has this yellow creme tone paint with a lot of maple wood (kitchen, maple, living room maple built in, floors in living room wood, natural wood French doors in kitchen) maple wood furnishings in the mud room and master bedroom. No exposed beams and all trimming are while. I love that oversized blue chair you put in there and the gorgeous multi color blue rug. The wall art is very nice too as is the chest to the right of the picture. Love the darker chair also and the round table you suggested. Thank you! @ginatay123, a multi tier chandelier sounds nice. Thank you for the advice. My husband loves the craftsman vibe we have in the house but I keep wanting to change some of that to reflect the outside of the house. I like traditional with a touch of farmhouse and I do like some craftsman pieces but not all out craftsman but of course the house needs to tie in and flow together. Thank you for the advice on where to find and search for chandeliers. @lynartist I’ll look into the height for the next one. I like the two tier chandeliers you suggested also. The door is definitely the showpiece there as you said. It’s hard for me to pick more furniture for that area because I don’t want any more natural wood there or dark pieces so I’m thinking light and white but not sure if it will work with the craftsman door and all the other maple wood I have in my home.
