Did you feel this way?
Comments (13)Trying to make a judgement on how things will look without the house being finished, is useless. Did any of you ever watch the decorator/designer Christopher Lowell on TV? He was so talented and in the end his rooms always looked fabulous. What I could never understand was how he always started with a paint color. Not an inspiration like a fabric or print, nothing. He just chose a paint color and most of the time it was horrid!! Then he'd start pulling all the "stuff" into the room and before you knew it the room was complete and the "horrid" paint color (or so I thought was horrid), was forgotten about because there was so much going on in the room. I have his book "7 Layers of Design." I read it, and re-read it and still can't wrap my head around picking a paint color first and then making the rest of the room "happen", but it can be done. So don't look at how the woods match while everything is empty. I can garauntee once the furniture and decor are in place, no one will notice what you think is a major error. I'm picking my laminate floor, the new Grand Illusion and I'm not even giving thought to furniture wood colors. That would be way too much for me to comprehend and try to coordinate. I know I'm going to furnish with some antique pieces and the woods can range from cherry (reddish) to walnut (dark) or even mahogany (red). I know my house is going to be beautiful just with the architecture and wall color. There won't be anyone visiting my house who will be thinking, "Oh goodness, her dresser doesn't match her floor." LOL If there is, they won't be invited back. Remember nature doesn't put all the same types of woods in their own specific forest. There isn't a maple forest, or pine forest, etc. Get what I'm saying? Mother nature thinks all wood types can mix and I'm not going to be the one to tell her she's wrong! At some point you have to trust it will all come together....See MoreWhy do I feel this way?
Comments (5)Gloria, don't feel badly about feeling that way. It's not that we don't love the ones left here, but we desperately want to get to our child on the other side especially if we didn't get to say "goodbye". Maybe it's like we have "unfinished business" that we can't wait to "finish". I don't know that you all feel this way, but I'm guessing. I'm not even sure what my reasoning is other than the fact that I know I miss her so much and want to see her again. I never have been afraid to die and would not mind going at any time either. I hate for my son and husband to have to grieve, though. My husband always says if I go before him, he won't make it. Of course he will, but that's what he says. I always think that if people REALLY have faith and believe in heaven and that it is so much better than here, why in the world would they be afraid to die????? I guess it's the unknown. Comments (12)kitchen-reno, good point about countertop protruding and hip bruising. And Romy718, also good point about crown molding and base molding sticking out. Maybe 2-3 inches would be optimal, less than the 5-6 that is in the plans now. And may I hijack my own thread to say I adore your kitchen, Romy718! The wall color, the cabinets, the countertop, and backsplash, all coordinate so beautifully! Do you by chance remember your wall color and backsplash tile? I am thinking of doing something similar as your color scheme, and if mine turned out 1/2 as nice I'd be a happy camper. :-)...See MoreI feel like I am annoying you all...but...
Comments (41)KKNY I don't know what to make of you. Of course we don't make the skids 'spy' for us. They brought the subject of smoking up themselves, we usually don't ask about those things (BM's drinking, the smoking - while pregnant of course, and other negative trades). That is because we'd feel bad knowing that the girls would probably feel like defending their mom. So therefore we wait till they volunteer the information and then we might ask what they think about it, or how they feel. The therapist has given us really good advice on how to be supportive of them, and how to adress these kinds of issues without criticizing their mom. However we do ask the girls general questions to show an interest in their other family, which is important for them. Like about their little brother or what they were up to on the weekend? Is that allowed?? Ima already explained it very well. It's about the power of brainwashing,I guess you're not that familiar with it. Like Ima's SD saying it is raining when the sun is clearly shining (that was your post Ima, right?) Also what is the significant difference for you between Stepmom or SO? I'm FDH's SO and stepmom to the skids. They actually started calling me that without my encouragement, they think it's 'cool' and so that's fine with me. You always think that it's the SM's vs the BM's here, and I don't understand why? Surely you're not that shallow to assume all Stepmoms are on the same page and all BM's are on the other? Just because I'm Dutch doesn't mean that I'm on the same page as all other Dutch people, right?...See MoreArapaho-Rd
