Actually I had knots in my stomach before the tile, cabinets, wood, etc were put down. Wondering if I had really blown it.

Once things were in place, it was a huge relief. It looked as good as (if not better) than I had envisioned.

Try not to concentrate on things as individuals. As the big picture develops, i.e., furnishings, etc., everything will look great, you'll see!! We tend to overthink everything because of course we want it to be perfect. Try not to do that. If you gave a lot of thought to your choices I'm sure they are wonderful choices.

I'm still concerned about our master bath tile. It's not laid yet, and I'm hoping against hope that it looks BETTER laid that it does in my head with the pallet of tiles sitting in my garage. Oh please look better!! :o)

Oh, I could not agree with you more. Read my frantic - panic messages to Lindy and Allison!
I thought, and still do, that my flooring and stained wood were/are all wrong. They are saying, as Brutuses, is....patience. Wait until all of the finishes come together. They will blend.
Well, I am waiting and still crossing my fingers on ALL of the choices I have made. I think I feel this way because I know we can't afford to go back and change them. We are living with these choices. That makes it permanent!
Superchick, I feel your pain.....every day....every decision and after every stage.
They just finished painting and I freaked because my DH said it was too yellow, but then once it dried and all of the ceilings were painted and some of the stone went up, it has managed to blend....my heart doesn't beat as fast now when I see the paint....

Totallyblessed-just wait till they lay your tile and leave it ungrouted for a while! ICK. I think mine looks terrible right now! Like you, I'm hoping it'll get better!

And Brutuses- I know you are exactly right. I have overthought this whole thing to the point of exhaustion! I think the thing that is really bugging me now is mostly the hardwood. It's gorgeous, but it's quite a bit darker than my trim stain (not exactly what I intended). A decision I spent weeks on and now I just think it looks weird!
Jenny-I wanted to respond to your "emotional" post, just never got the time. I think I've been an "emotional wreck" for a while now! All the chaos we've been living in is starting to wear on me! DH reminds me to look towards the goal, but all I can think is..."DOES THAT LOOK HIDEOUS?" or "WHAT THE H*** was I THINKING?"
I have spent so many years dreaming this house up and now that we've come down to specific choices, here towards the end, I've been just so tired that I feel like I'm just choosing the first thing that doesn't look ridiculous-just to make a decision!
On the other side of this, I am happy to finally be at the tiling stage! No one did squat for about a month and I was starting to get aggravated! We've had to ask for an extention and I have no intention of waiting past the first of next month!! :) (Like I have any control over anything!) Anyway, onward towards the prize!

Did any of you ever watch the decorator/designer Christopher Lowell on TV? He was so talented and in the end his rooms always looked fabulous. What I could never understand was how he always started with a paint color. Not an inspiration like a fabric or print, nothing. He just chose a paint color and most of the time it was horrid!! Then he'd start pulling all the "stuff" into the room and before you knew it the room was complete and the "horrid" paint color (or so I thought was horrid), was forgotten about because there was so much going on in the room. I have his book "7 Layers of Design." I read it, and re-read it and still can't wrap my head around picking a paint color first and then making the rest of the room "happen", but it can be done.

So don't look at how the woods match while everything is empty. I can garauntee once the furniture and decor are in place, no one will notice what you think is a major error.

I'm picking my laminate floor, the new Grand Illusion and I'm not even giving thought to furniture wood colors. That would be way too much for me to comprehend and try to coordinate. I know I'm going to furnish with some antique pieces and the woods can range from cherry (reddish) to walnut (dark) or even mahogany (red). I know my house is going to be beautiful just with the architecture and wall color. There won't be anyone visiting my house who will be thinking, "Oh goodness, her dresser doesn't match her floor." LOL If there is, they won't be invited back.

Remember nature doesn't put all the same types of woods in their own specific forest. There isn't a maple forest, or pine forest, etc. Get what I'm saying? Mother nature thinks all wood types can mix and I'm not going to be the one to tell her she's wrong!

At some point you have to trust it will all come together.

bruteses-you are so right. I know that I prefer those rooms that are "mixed" together rather than all "matchy-matchy". They are much more homey and comfortable. I will do my best to heed your advice and go with the flow! I think I just wasn't counting on walking in everyday and not being totally "comfortable" with the choices I've made. I've spent countless hours on my decisions, I'll just have to have faith...or buy a really big area rug! HAHA!

Now let's see if I can follow my own advice. HA!

I'm sitting here looking at paint samples next to the flooring I picked out and for the life of me I can't tell what goes and what doesn't. So, in keeping with my own advice, I'm going to get paint that is pleasing to my eye's and not stress over how well it matches the floor!! I think you really have to live in a space to make some decisions and since we don't want to move in our new houses with no paint and floors, we have to make these decisions whether we like it or not. I would much prefer being able to live and decorate as time goes on, but I know that is not the most logical way so I'm doing my best to decorate without living in the space first. I know my choices won't be ugly or "shocking," so I'll just have to hope they all come together in the end. HA! HA! I'm sure after I'm living in the space I'll think, oh, I could have done this or I could have done that, but that's just how it is when you love all styles, colors, etc. LOL

I wanted to go take some pics yesterday, but some thug stole my camera and phone out of my car while I was at church! Of all places to commit a crime! :) So I'll have to borrow DD's and try to find the cord for it. I packed up a bunch of things already, so I don't even know if I can find it! Maybe I'll go hunt for it today.
